Hi there, now there is a problem. My RRC with BorgWarner t-box was running fine with the DiscoII driveshaft. Now that the B/W is replaced by the LT230 and the driveshaft shortened the driveshaft sits much closer to the right hand cat (6-7mm space left; the balancing weights are positioned exactly in this tightness ). On bumps and going round corners it hits the cat. I am puzzled, didn't think the 3.5cm shorter shaft make such a difference. 'Thought this shaft is used in Discos I by some as a replacement without problems so should fit my RRC. Any ideas what could be wrong ? How is the original setup in the DII ? Is the cat - design different ? The frame width and engine should be comparable. The sliding joint of the shaft is at the diff end right in the neighbourhood of the cat so must get hot too. Just thinking of the grease in the splines and what this heat makes to it. Are consequences out of this to be expected ? thanks, hendrik |

If memory serves me well. I am fairly certain you need to pry that cat outwards a little. I think Craig commented on it some time ago. Kyle |

yeah i noticed that there is a different down pipe from like 87-88 RRC to the cats, i didn't know why but i assume it's to make room for the shaft. for my own curiousity, how did you "shorten" the drive shaft? did you cut a pc out of it and weld back togetehr? rd |

shortening was done by a specialist. They removed to connecting weld on a lathe I think shortened the tube put it back on and welded again. We once did it ourselves by cutting just the required length out of the shaft, forcing a tube that was a press-fit (made on a lathe) into the driveshaft tube(half way into each end) and welded the groove. Worked well, but of course we could not do the balancing - we count the do-it-ourself method as an emergency repair to see if it works and if it does then leave it, but not on a regular basis. How much space is there between the driveshaft and the cat on a standard Disco II? In the pics on expeditionexchange I noticed that Ho`s D/C-Driveshaft has the sliding joint right in the middle of the shaft, different to mine. Which kind is genuine ? Thanks again |
