Is there ANY way (besides fixing it) to turn off the DAM "anti lock" light?? I'm assuming I have a loose or dirty sensor (maybe a bad one, but I doubt it). I checked all the fuses I can find that the manual says has to do with the ABS. All good. Besides stabbing the light through the dash with a screwdriver, how does this bad boy get turned off????? I want to take out and remove/clean all my sensors, but the shop manual says that you have to replace the bushes that the sensors are seated in for WHATEVER reason they were taken out. Pain in the ass. |

My light burned out, so you have that to look forward to Check engine still on 95% of the time. Service Engine light came on last week, I reset it. I need to check the code for the Check Engine light though. Sorry, I know that didn't answer anything.. Peace.. RS |

Oh, and on another note, does your ABS act up at all? Kicking in for no apparent reason? Mine did and I pulled the front sensors and cleaned and reseated them. Didn't replace a damn thing. Worked like a charm. I'm guessing the ABS light might have went off had it been lit then |

If you're careful, you don't necessarily have to replace anything if you pull & check your sensors. That's just liability language. |

Robert, my abs has been kicking in for no apparent reason. Finally had to pull the fuse. How do you "pull & clean" the sensors. What does "reseating" involve? I heard that the gap is critical. I couldn't quite find such references in my Haynes. Thanks. |

Well if you pull, clean and reset your sensors and the light is still on, just remove the dash cluster and take-out the bulb. Why stare at it? Mine has been glowing for over 9-months because of a broken sensor in the rear, one day I will repair, but the light does not bother me anymore. I see it glowing in my sleep, the eyes of my clients, and in the bottom of the beer cans. It is now a calming affect reminding me of my youth growing-up in a small town with a single caution light that would not blink. |

...yet, Derek. You don't have any electrical gremlins yet. With a disco, it's never IF, only WHEN... |

A very common fault with the ABS is a result of having new brake rotors fitted. The process of removing a big piece of iron like the hub and rotor can cause the exciter ring (the toothed wheel that the sensor counts) to hit the sensor on its way out for service. This in turn knocks the sensor out of range, causing the warning light to come on and the ABS to work on dry pavement at or below 8 mph. Another possibility on higher mileage vehicles is the bearing that supports the cv joint in the front axle. It is located in the rear of the stub axle and when it goes bad, the cv joint no longer travels in a circle and knocks back the sensor. Hope this helps Trevor |

My left-front wheel kicks into abs mode if I drive off after the disco has sat for about 2 days and I apply the brakes, mostly while turning. It's annoying and could potentially be dangerous. My light has been on forever. I would like to clean the sensors, but I am not sure how to find them. Could someone let me know what to look for and what to do?
