Does Maxi-Drive have a reseller in the US for their PTO and hydraulic pump? I'm looking into using this system with a hydraulic winch.

This is the only site I can find with information on the Maxi-Drive unit:

http://www.4wdworld.com.au/products/maxidrive/hydraulicunit.htm

While researching how to run a hydralic winch on my rr i contacted gb rover; they have the maxie drive system, but, at the time they did not have a complete system. you had to purchase several items from different places and fit them together; i did find a place in england that sells a upgrade powersteering pump setup to run the winch to its full capacity....i bought this system and installed it last month along with a 12k hydralic winch...so far everything works great.

I never heard from Maxi-Drive, but I did e-mail back and forth with GBR. They have the PTO in stock (~$350), and have pumps on order (about the same price). I'm going to get both as soon as they are in stock, and then find out what other components I will need to complete the system.

I'm interested in talking with DII owners that have installed MileMarkers with the Maxi-Drive PTO, especially ones with $G bumpers. Anyone know of anyone?

Thanks,

Someone tell me more about these "upgraded" power steering pumps. Is it only the output pressure that is upgraded? Volume? What exactly is upgraded? Also does the usable life suffer any consequences?

How much and where?

Lots of questions.

Larry,

These guys are talking about PTO driven pumps. These operate off of the transfer case and are a completely seperate system from the ps pump. These systems will give more psi and volume than the ps pump.

The upgraded ps pumps will definitely put out more psi; not sure about volume, though. The problem with the higher psi ps pump is that you need to have a relief valve to drop pressure before the steering box or its toast. Go to: http://www.4x4winches.com/zf.html.

The PTO system is the way to go.

larry, mike is correct. the relief valve is part of the kit offered by 4x4winches. the zf74 pump produces more psi for the winch (1500 psi)and then is relieved for the steering box. a unique bracket is included for the rr (dont know about a disco)zf74 ps pump and all hoses and instructions. the mm winch must be ordered with the 204cc speced motor for the 4x4winches system)to get the full benefit of this winch setup.

Sherrod,

When I looked into the ZF upgraded pump, 4x4 winches was offering the pump with a modified pulley to accomodate the serpentine belt on the Disco. They never shipped the pump and valve to me. I'll probably wait until next year to get the PTO system.

For now the standard pump works ok. Some pulls require the snatch block. It's very slow, but dependable for the last year and a half that I've had it.

what about the $100 Saginaw pump offered here: http://www.winchesplus.com/access.htm ?

what would be involved to rig it as a dedicated pump?

how would it perform?

The problem is that the Saginaw pump is in that it would require a custom made mount. The ZF pump is about $180 and mounts in the same place as the standard pump. The saginaw, once mounted, would probably perform well since it is similar to what most US vehicles have and that's what the MM was designed around.
