I have a 02 Discovery with the premium sound system, but the CD changer was missing so I added an Alpine unit using the adapter. Lately you can hear feedback from the engine and when you input anything into the head unit you here a loud pop through the rear speakers. Also it has started producing a crackling sound as you drive, like two bare wires are rubbing together. Im getting ready to take it in for its 45,000 mile service, and while talking to the service department they thought it could be the alternator, mainly because of the feedback. The thing is I bought the Rover used, and the dealership doesnt seem interested in doing anything more than absolutely necessary because Im not their customer. Given that Im afraid they are going to be very reluctant to help once they see the aftermarket changer and the adapter. Any thoughts. |

Don't know alot about sound systems but it may not be grounded properly. I cant believe a 02 would have a alternator problem, but stranger things could happen. |

I have a '00 DII that is starting to have sound system problems. I installed the CD changer last year and up until now everything worked fine. Now with the radio only, the sound seems to fade from the left side to the right side and then front to back. I will live with it until the next service. |

I have a '96 Disco that I bought used. I changed the stock radio with an in-dash Kenwood CD player/radio and used the conversion kit. When the unit powered up there was a loud background hiss all the time. After much tinkering I took it to a local car stereo specialist (not Best-Buy) who had done quite a few Rover conversions. They told me that since most in-dash units also have their own amps the onboard amp would have to be bypassed. I let them do it ~ $100 total. Then the unit had the sound only when the interior lights would self dim after the doors shut. Required an inline noise filter ~$35. Now, no background hiss. Hope this helps. Mike |
