I read a write up on the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon yesterday and, based on the gossip I have heard about the Rover vehicles in the pipeline, it made me quite pissed. The rubicon comes stock with 31 inch Mud Terrains, Dana 44 axles with 4.10:1 gearing (front and rear), heavy drive shafts and some sort of upgraded transfer case and u joints. But perhaps the most appealing item are the factory installed lockers. It defaults to limited slip in the rear, but if you drop down to low range and are below 10mph, you can lock the rear and front axels. I beleive it uses some new electro-pneumatic locking differential that supposedly operates at a very low pressure, thus claiming to have increased reliabilty. Oh, yes, and the damn thing can come with a manual transmission. Wouldnt it be nice if Land Rover could do something similair? Or at least recognize that there is demand for this sort of product. I know the cdl is a nice step, but locking diffs would be heavensent.. |
