ok heres the deal, at first i was thinking of installing a 3" lift and 32" tires, but now id love to show up my friend who needs 5.5" of lift for 32" tires on his grand cherokee. So I was thinking of getting 2"spacers and fit 33"s. is this a bad idea? Will the spacers make me need brakelines and a driveshaft and whatnot? and if its alright, do i need spacers made specifically for a land rover discovery? |

why not really show him up and go where his 5.5 and 32"tire go with your truck stock? then again just roll your truck before he rolls his then you can always tell him you where first |

if you don't change the shocks you won't need to change brake lines as the stock shocks will limit your travel. Depending one the width of those 33s you may be doing some butchering to the wheel wells and depending on the rims you use you may lose a lot of turning radius. Those 2 inch spacers could also give you drive line vibes which means you would have to correct that as well which could mean new drive shafts. Plus, with 33s you are more likely to snap an axle if you aren't careful. I would get 2inch springs instead of 2inch spacers though. |

I run RTE HD 2" lift springs front and rear with rear 1" spacers, 235 85 r16 MTs, no sway bars and stock everything else. No drive line vibes at all on my 1997 D1. Ron Ward |

You should clear 32s with a 3" lift. I am running a 3-4" lift and 34" tires. Requires a bit of trimming, but it works.

Ted, I'd suggest the following: 1. OME HD 2" lift (shocks and springs) 2. Extended SS brake lines, for safety and for articulation as well 3. Flares from ECR for 325$. This is cheaper than 1 driveshaft (you'll need two with a +2" lift), and will allow for wider/taller tires. And, you'll keep the center of gravity under the clouds. Now I know they are not pretty or they may deform the LR image and all, but if they work, then great. I had a 6" rear lift and a 4" front lift, and that was disastrous. Gone with 2" and 32" swamper since, and going to get those flares (in rubber form, not fiberglass) from OZ and install tall 33s or short 35s...J**P eater... My suggestions |

Ted, No new driveshaft, no new brakes. There are a few folks running the 35x12.50 MTRs on Rangies as our wheelarches are larger than Disco's I think. I'll be going that route sometime next year, but I just wanted to try a set of "interim" tires before I do all that cutting on the body. Of course I could do a 2" body lift and my rubbing issues would go away. -P |

ok so i just called rovers north about getting an OME lift, the guy tells me that to run 32"s with that lift id have to trim like 2" and id have to have somewhat narrow tires, anyone want to tell me he is wrong? |

Depends on the OME lift (MD or HD), and depends on what he calls narrow. The last three pics on this page show me flexing a Swamper 33x10.50 radial with a 3" lift (no trimming since I just borrowed the tire). Of course this is a Rangie and not a Disco so hopefully some of the guys here who are running 32s will offer some pics and help. http://www.spanishtrailrovers.com/Tech/Mods/RoverTym_Lift/RoverTym_Flex/rovertym_flex.html Click each of the the last pics for a larger view. -P |

Good stuff guys. I thought some of you were running 32s or taller on OME springs. I don't know what RN is thinking. Maybe those guys are all running around on those XPCs they sell. -P |

I do not understand the find the missing 2 inchese, but since you are familiar with running 235/85's maybe you can comment on this... I am thinking along similar lines. I have '95 Disco, OME HD springs, OME shocks, Rockware front/rear bumper/skid plates, rocksliders and cat skid and superwinch X9. I am currently running 245/75 BFG AT on NTC9976 stock alloy. I would like to run 235/85 Trxus MT on steel, possibly the american racing 16x7s. I am somewhat concerned whether they will fit with the ~4.25 offset. Is this cool? Do I *need* anything else? I would like to attach some pictures, but do not see how to do so. |

you'll need to do some cutting as the rims will push the wheels out towards your fender lip. |

stock wheels + 235/85-16 + a less severe version of this http://www.discoweb.org/trim/index.htm or some of this http://www.discoweb.org/rearfender/index.htm will just work fine. |

trimming you may need is really minimal. People hear "trim" and think of nasty rough edges and crumpled, butchered body work. hehehehe that's called "hacking". You'll just need a little trim, or maybe just push the qp's out a little there like in Ho's second link.. |

hacking is a good word. you realize that you need some skill to "butcher" hehehe. |

yes, but the Discovery is not a fine cut of meat...should stick with "trim" or "hack" on the Disco |

I now have a gallery and purposefully placed some pictures of my front/rear fender clearances w/ the 245/75s. Check them out they may help you understand what I am dealing with. http:://www.discoweb.org/briandickens It seems to me that I will likely not need any further trimming on the rear since the rear has been trimmed up to the body bump goard trim. My concerns are that i have been told that american racing wheels will push out ~1". However I believe that the tires I have chosen are slight less width than the 245/75 so I hope that I am safe. To complicate things am also told that the Trxus MTs run large. I am not too afraid to trim, but have yet to acquire the equipment to do so. Also is it true that the amercian racing wheels with the offsets will HELP turning radius? Comments thus far are very much appreciated! Thanks. Bri |

nice disco. With that rockware rear bumper, you're home free. I don't think that even AR wheels push out far enough to tag a 235 on the inner fender lip...do they? But because of the offset, steering radius should improve a bit. |

with AR wheels, watch that rear door. you have the shortie RW trailing arms too? |

well, there's only one way to find out. but chances are, you'll run into the rear doors. |

Would this happen under compression? What about the front? |

rear under full stuff. if you have more drop on the other side, then the stuffing side gets stuffed backwards, keeping you away from the door. front, you'll rub just above the front of the slider, thats' on straught up and down situations. |

I have OME MD's and 235x85's on LR steel rims. I do have offset radius arms and trailing links but I don't think it makes any difference as far as the tires are concerned. I personally feel this offered me a good comprimise because: 1)I can stuff the shit out of my tires and the only thing that rubs are the stupid front endcaps 2)Even though I'm going to have to adjust my front steering stops to stop the radius arm rubbing I won't have to worry about... 3)Offset rims and the "trimming". I only had to cut about 1.5" off of the underside of my rear quarter panel with a dremel. Therefore you cannot see any visible cutting. Bigger tires have their advantages and disadvantages but I've been really happy with my Futuras. May go to a 33 some day if I get rock happy. |

I got the whole thing as a package (front/rear bumper & skiplates, sliders and cat skid plate). I believe that they would quote you around $900 installed. I think that included the skid plate, but I am not 100% sure, you would have to check. |
