Here is the scoop. I was sitting at a red light and this lady slams into me from behind. I never heard her breaks so she must of going about 20 30 miles an hour. I get out my my 97 disco and started to walk towards the back. I first noticed her vehicle. She was in a (3 month old, as I later found out) Nissan Frontier P/U. Her entire font end was imploded. I looked like she ran into a wall. She hit me with so much force that there was now an entire car length between her Nissan and my disco. As I rounded the corner fearing the worst for my disco I was hysterical with laughter. The only visible damage was one broken taillight. I had a trail hitch on which acted light a battering ram and absorbed 90 percent of the hit. My bumper doesnt even have any paint scratched off. What a stroke of luck. Now for my question. Could there be any structural damage? I crawled under the disco and looked at the frame and hitch mounts. All look good and straight. No bends or surface cracks in any weld or frame. So what else do I need to look at? |

my wife was driving by a small alley in our old volvo wagon as a woman nosed out and caught the nose of her brand new mustang on the side moulding of the volvo. the front nose cone of the mustang came off and took the pasenger side fender with it. total damage to the volvo was a $75 steel moulding around the rear tire well. some vehicles are just tougher then others. if she had caught your spare tire on the rear door you may have been totaled...sometimes its that close between nothing and toast. |

I was rear ended in my 98 LSE by an Olds Cutlass Sierra. I now have a few small scratches on the underside of my bumper. The women driving the Olds has a new car courtesy of the trailer hitch and that tall non plastic bumper. Evan |

I would have her insurance company pay to have your truck checked out, including checking frame and suspension alignment. Just to be safe. It would suck to find out your truck is bent ina couple months when your tires are mysteriously worn out already. |

With that kind of force on the frame I agree that it needs to be looked at by a frame shop. Quite often the visible damage may be minor but the expensive items are the ones you cannot see. |

My wife was rear ended by a kid in a Soob. It totalled the Soob, like scrap heap ready! The Disco had a mangled bumper and step and the lights were cracked. But when the dealer checked it over that is all they found. Don't forget that's the chassis rails behind there, so unless it was hit by another (equally) rigid structure, then it's not likely that the Disco has any really bad damage. Do get them to check the underneath for signs of 'colateral' damage - gas tank connections ruptured, wiring pulled etc. |

the correct way to do this is exit the car with hand on neck , staggering and moaning while simultaneously calling edger snyder (or whoever the local big wig accident attourney is). take car to a local garage with a kid working there who you can be "payed off" witha $20 bill and get them to say there is $1000 in structual damage. go out and have cadillac replacemnet bumber fabbed buy someone. you could pocket the money or get lockers or something but the bumper will show that you did do something to the area where you were hit incase those bastard insurance claims adjusters come around. last step, go to confession and mention the word "fraud". BAM! all forgiven rd |

You guys are too much. Thanks for the info. I am having the rig looked at by a shop and if they find anything her insurance will pay for it. Now that you mention it my neck is stiff, my big toe hurts and my eye is twitching. Where is that lawyers phone number. lol |

Scott. Double check yourself, measure distances and check for square. Likely it is fine, though a new exhaust would be nice Ron |

Scott, Like Ron said, in addition to the Disco be sure to double check yourself. Measure all your distances and make sure you're still square. Lawrence [email protected] 96 Disco "Beowulf" NH, USA |

I work at a Body Shop and do a lot of frame work...Just say your car pulls now and they'll pay for a free four-wheel allignment because of the 4wd. I seriously doubt the frame is bent at all. It takes more of a pop than that to bend a frame, as many people don't realize. A lot of other stuff should bend before the frame, but you never know, so get it checked out and get a new trailor hitch and allignment. Don't let the insurance company push you around either, they are full of shit and will make stuff up. They probably won't send out an adjustor though cuz the damage is under $1000, so they'll just cut you a check to get the stuff checked out. Brad |

I have been hit twice in the past two months. You will soon receive many calls from ambulance chasers. I received over 10 - 15 per day. Get your truck looked and get a rental car similar to what you drive. They wont provide a Rover but they should put you in a 2003 Expedition. My muffler was bent a little so the whole thing was replaced. Take your truck to several shops to get estimates. Godd luck glad everything is OK. charles |

Okay lets discuss this then, if the Disco is so tough then why do insurance companies charge so much for a premium?? I work for a small police dept in NC and I have seen what happens to cars when they make impact with Rovers it is never good for the other person. The Rover always wins Rangie or a Disco. |

I recently bought my D1, and was shocked at the insurance premium. It was only a few dollars more than my previous car. My 99D1 is only $20 a year more than my old 2001 PT Cruiser. I was ready to be taken advantage of. Very nice surprise. My ten year old BMW that I had before the Cruiser was almost twice as much as the rover. |

When we got our Disco a year ago (2001 model, new) I, too, was surprised at how reasonable the insurance rate for full coverage was. Having my husband drive our old Volvo to work (and not his dually) more than makes the difference (gasoline) in the insurance premium on the Disco. Karen |

I got smacked by a Olds Cutlass Sierra, too! I wonder what they have against Discos? Same deal, totaled her car and scratched my bumper. I came home and told my wife she is getting a Land Rover. |
