Anyone tried to remove the ball joint from the axle mount on a disco with 250,000km on it. Tonight i resorted to lifting the rear of the vehicle up with the jack on the ball joint bolt, all to no avail. Hitting it with a drift and hammer was futile. Its damn stuck, any ideas do i need heat??? I have the maxidrive adjustable joint to replace the cactus old one with. steve from oz |

Just heard a madtips for loosening the thing: 1) Crawl under vehicle 2) Loosen the bolts a bit 3) Drive over bumps etc. 4) When it releases, you hear a big "WHAAACCCKKK". Voila - it's loose Sadly, when A-ball is loose, also axle is loose, so you really should not drive it... What's more, it might take some time: whom I heard tip from, drove for two weeks until it loosened up... I'm up to this job eastertime, so I hope I do not have to resort to this way of doing it... I'm doing this job as we speak. Actually, I'm re-iinstalling my mew one. But mine came out ok with a few whacks from the mini-sledge and a drift. The "drive around" seems like a good time as long as you don't loosen it too much. I'd loosen in a couple of turns and then drive over every curb I could find until it jolted loose. -P |

Redneck solution. Hit it with a bigger hammer. Also it is easier to remove the two little bolts and take out the assembly that way. With the jack stand under it maybe jump on the rear bumper. Ron |
