Hey guys, It seems my '99 D2's alarm is going crazy. What I do - turn off the ignition, get out of car press lock on my key remote What the car does - Car locks...3 seconds later the yellow lights begin blinking (intermittently), then all the doors unlock (yeah...cause this real useful), and optionally the car will begin blowing the horn in short bursts/little beeps. I tried resetting the alarm per the manual with 4 clicks of the lock button. I also believe the remote has a pretty fresh battery. ??Can anyone shed any light on what poltergeist has invaded my truck?? Thanks in advance, Greg D |

Greg D, my alarm had similar syptoms about a year ago. Aparently it was due to a drained battery, that I wasn't aware of. Put in a fresh one with charge and the probelms went away.... Do you hear a clicking noise when the alarm is set, coming from the engines bay? |

Dave, That sounds familiar...I wasn't sure if the clicking was coming from a relay in the passenger compartment or the engine area. If I change the battery myself....what do I need to know or do to reset things after changing the battery (e.g. will I need a reset code for my radio?)? thanks, Greg D |

Man, can I commiserate, You might also want to check all of your connections to the battery. I had a slightly loose positive connection that caused similar symptoms that were VERY intermittent. Every month or so I'd get no response from the fob buttons, only some very erratic clicking from the relays in the dash. Then the alarm would go off like crazy and "reset" itself until I turned the motor off again. Now it seems all is fine. It all magically got fixed one day when it was acting up and I thought to jiggle the positive cable, instead of the negative like I had been doing. Hope this helps. Mark |

Greg, I think you will just need to reset your A/C from Celcius to Farenheit. I know this sounds silly, but that has been the case with me every time I disconnect the battery. I believe that you do this by holding down the far laft and far right buttons simultaneously for two to four seconds. Either way, it is in the owners manual. Everything else seems to stay intact: clocks, radio, etc... Curtis |

Greg, You also need to get the security code for your stereo from the dealer. Sometimes when you disconnect the battery for too long, the stereo defaults. It may even be on a service invoice..... |

Dave, I doubt it. I have never needed the code and have had the battery disconned much longer than it takes to put in a new one. Granted - this is on a D2, but Greg has the same. Curtis |

That's funny w/ the D2. I noticed the same thing with not needing the radio code (I always had to enter it when changing my D1 battery.) I did have to reset the climate control to farenheit as curtis mentioned. Good luck! -Tommy |

Easy... There is dirt/dust down one of the door push buttons preventing one of the locks engaging. Push buttons are the things you press down to activate the locks. If any lock does not engage, all doors unlock and the alarm sounds. In UK we have WD40, a spray cleaner. Just spray some down each door push and the problem goes away. PS, I live about 4 miles from the Landrover factory. |

Everyone, Thanks to everyone for all of your help. Over the weekend I replaced the battery (it was old anyway...so I figured it was due). The original connections seemed tight although they were dirty. I brushed them clean when I switched batteries. For those keeping score... - I did have to reset my climate control system from Celsius to Fahrenheit - I did not have to reset my radio, only without power for 15 mins max It seems to be fine for the moment. JMace- I'll keep an eye out for the issue you cited as this seems to be the only remaining explanation if the problem persists. When the push locks get jammed, do they fail to go down when locked (in other words are there any tips to figure out which one is dirty/problematic? I have WD40 laying around for all kinds of other toys...sounds like a good bit of preventitive maintenance anyway! Again thanks for everyone's help! Thanks, Greg D |

Hi, Use WD40.There could be no indication which push lock jams. However, one push-button might not recess to its full depth and obviously that the sticky plunger. Its difficult to spot since the alarm sounds within seconds and the push-buttons go skywards.I think a new battery may not be the solution - wait and see but keep the WD40 ready! |
