Does anyone know how often it should be re-greased? I have late model Disco I with grease instead of EP90 and was wondering since I bought a LR one shot grease. Do I just put grease in or do I clean the old one out first(how?)? Thanks. Joel |

Joel: Supposedly, the one-shot grease is just that. Put it in and ignore it for the life of the truck... However, ignoring things for the life of these trucks is likely to result in that life of the truck being shorter than if one were to inspect and take appropriate corrective action. As for removing the grease, I have heard several suggestions ranging from heat guns to repeated additions of 90 wt. Why don't you check to see what you have in there (level and condition) using a pipe cleaner inserted through the fill hole? If the level seems good, and the grease is not discolored, or doesn't have any water in it, keep driving. If the level is low or the grease is obviously contaminated, add enough to fill the housing approximately half-full. |

Can you stuff TOO much grease in there? Worse comes to worse it just squeezes out? Or can too much 'one shot grease' be bad? |

That is a good question. I have not replaced my swivel housing grease since my '97 D1 was new (in other words, never). I read these posts about changing the lube with either 90w or grease, and I feel I need to change mine if only for my peace of mind. I guess my question is, is there a diagram of the particular drain, level, and fill plugs anywhere? I looked under my vehicle and can only find the fill plug. I will refill the housings with 140w, but I cannot get past first base. I need to know how to drain the housings first. Any help would be appreciated. Also, original question still stands: can the housing be 'overfilled' with grease? |

Brian, I think you do not have a drain plug on a '97. LR stopped putting it in, I guess on the theory that "one shot" grease never needed to be replaced. I guess the only way to get it out is to take the assembly apart. some people suggest installing a drain plug when you do so (tap and die). |
