Looking at one of the factory built British Columbia 1996 Eco-Challenge Discovery XD's. 27 were made for this event. Has new steel wheels, new futura tires, new catalytic converters, full roof rack, OME shock, new RTE springs, brush guard with limb risers and 9500 lb warn winch, 6 hella lights upfront, one on rear of rack, solid smooth running engine, all the rubber floor mats, water proof seat covers, cb radio ...etc..etc...very well maintained. Placed second in 1999 Excel trophy in Florida. They are asking $17k bottom price. Many of you guys have a real good handle on prices it seems. What's it really worth.

IMO it's not worth the money. Now where did you say this was? I wonder if they will take my '99 D1 on trade?

Mileage?

Regardless of the mileage, that seems like a lot for a '96 Disco, unless you're into the heritage.

80k miles.

First 3 years of driving it was owned by LandRover.

The problem with this thing is that LR's have little or no historical value to the US market. In Britain, that might be different. 20 years from now, will this thing be worth more because it is a rare Discovery? I doubt it. Most Rover enthusiasts drive their vehicles off road, therefore, they wouldn't want a "rare" one better suited to being kept nice.

Also, like any "rare" vehicle, any mods decrease it's value.

Now, if you really like it yourself, and it is a fine example of a top-notch running disco, that is worth money. Just depends on how much it is worth to you.

Just keep in mind that you can get a 96K disco with 80k for around 8-10 grand and the mods on this truck does not match 7-9 grand worth. You have to decide if it is worth it to you to have the eco-challenge version.

I guess you could assume that since it was LR owned, it was maintained really well, but now that is up to however good of a worker the person or persons were who were maintaining it. McDonalds hamburgers are owned by McDonalds untill they sell them to you, and sometimes those are pure shit because of the dopes behind the counter.

A well-maintained '96 is worth ~$10k. This XD is 70% over that. So only consider the purchase if: a) the mods are EXACTLY what you were planning to purchase for your rig b) The "eco-challenge" look and heritage is worth an extra $3k - $4k to you. Personally I think $14k - $15k would be a decent deal, if the truck & mods are indeed in excellent conditions.
