I have a '96 Discovery and right about when I hit 40mph I hear an awful schreeching sound which is ususally alleviated by putting on my breaks. I thought it was break pads so had them checked - the front ones were worn down so have just been replaced, yet the glorious cacaphony of screeching continues... any ideas would be greatly appreciated??? On another note, I'm very pleased to find a Land Rover page of helpful people not LR bashers - you guys are great! |

Check your front wheel bearings. |

My rear pads were doing that. Very noisy until I pressed the brakes slightly. Even tho there was lots of wear left on them. I replaced them and the noise was gone. Haven't had any noise since for about 6 months. I got my new pads form Nathan Crabtree who is widely known on this web site. See if you can hear whether the noise is coming from front or rear.
