Well, I went to Discount tire today to get my BFG AT's 265/75 R16's put on and they refused to install them because they say they will not fit! I don't have a lift yet but am installing an OME HD lift in 2 weeks. Will they really not fit with out the lift or were they feeding me a line of bullshit? I can wait 2 more weeks for tires but am disapointed. |

They will fit fine for street use if you have the factory rims. |

they do not want to be liable for putting a non factory approved tire on your truck. you can buy them and take them to a local mom and pop shop, they are usually more leanient rd |

Gimme a break. I just got 34x10.50 swampers installed at my local Discount Tire store and they even sold me the free replacement warranty. It's all about how you deal with the manager. When I brought mine in, I had an angle grinder and cutoff wheel in the front seat in case there was bodywork "interference" with the tires. The tech charged with the install was nervous and came to get me to get my opinion. The manager came out with me, understood what I wanted and told the tech to "cut to fit". Everything from there was smooth sailing. If they think you are an uptight owner, they will not want to do anything outside the norm. If you show that you are willing to live with the consequences of your purchase, they can be very helpful. This is my second set of oversized tires bought and installed at Discount. I've been nothing but pleased with their service. -P |

Considering that 245/75-16 rub on the rear quarter panel (on the rear of the wheel well, down low) under compression, these will to. For street use you will rub the radius arms and likely need to adjust bump stops, at least I did for my 245/75-16s. Don't know about the front and 265/75s |

Brian, are you talking about a D2? I know the 245s fit without any rubbing all around on a D2. The 265s might rub at full turn on the radius arms, but that depends on the type of tread. chu |

When I went shopping for tires, the salesperson at Costco started the conversation with, "...and what kind of vehicle is it?" This can only lead to trouble. Eventually, I wore him down to installing and balancing the desired tires on my steel wheels - the caveat? - he would not agree to actually mount the wheels to the truck. Needless to say, I didn't buy me tires there. In these times of incredible lawsuits against tire manufacturers, the big chains have probably been told to only mount OEM tires per the vehicle manufacturer specification. I found an independent shop in Oakland who was more than happy to do the work, for far less, and with the brand I really wanted after a short search of the yellow pages. Good luck! e |

i cant blame a big name tire store(or any tire store) for not wanting to mount non approved tires on someones car, it's just not worth the potential law suit. nowyou just go in and ask them to put them on a rim and leave the details to yourself and i dont see a problem, unless you are jamming the wrong size tire on the rim rd |

Eric P, I had over size tires put on other 4x4's at Discount in Fort Collins, they asked me "are you sure you want to put them on, they will rub" I just told them yes and I will be putting a lift on later in the week and they said OK. It may be that I live closer to the moutains and they see alot of lifted rides so they are not freaked when someone wants to put larger tires on. Good Luck, |

I'm in the same boat as Eric, can't put off getting new tires and will be getting a RTE lift soon. So I'll ask if 265-75-16's will fit on a '98 disco 1 for the time being and only for street use until lift is installed. Mike |

Discount Tire mounted 35's on my Rangie with a little hesitation. They mounted one and asked me if the fit was OK? I said hell yes, and they finished the job with no further questions. Albeit they were pretty much in awe of a Rangie with 35's. Larry |

Yea Larry, I got the same treatment with the 34's. I think it adds some fun to their humdrum day to see someone come in and get the unexpected. -P |

Muskyman, I think most will agree with you but the D2 will fit 265/75 with no real problems. Rubbing radius arms will happen with or without a lift. FWIW, Sears put on my 265/75's with no questions. I just had to make sure all the lug bolts were tight when I got home and found that none were more than finger tight. |

Chu & Eric, Good point--sorry and good catch. I was talking about D1. Ted: D1 or D2. I will have the 235/85-16 on D1 w/ OME HD setup late this week. I do not believe that I will need to adjust steering bump stops from a test fit. FWIW, the guys at 4x4 parts wholesalers on 42nd were very, very good at assisting me with this purchase. |

Ted--I put 235/85 16 BFG All Terrains on this weekend. I have the CB lift and experienced some rubbing with the new tires. This is on a 96 D1 SE7 and stock tires. The steering stops will get done tonight. Expedition Exchange has a shot of the stops and a "guide to cutting" (Thanks Ho--those pictures of the fender cut were excatly what I was looking)...DougC |
