As many of you D2 owners know, OME has been on their ass in regards to offering a steering stabilzer for the D2. I've got the OME HD shock/spring setup with BFG MTR 265/75-16 tyres. Immediately after installation I noticed a little feed back in the steering wheel while driving over washboard roads, but I could hardly care with the overall ride and performance of the new suspension. Well, John over at EE is now selling the OME steering stabilizers so I just had to get one. Needless to say, there is no more feedback in the steering wheel. Additionally, the D2 corners better even around town and is much more stable when hitting pot holes, rocks and the like. It is defintely worth it. BW |

Is there any trick to installing the stabilizer? It looks very simple, but I just want to make sure nothing funny is going to happen when I remove the bolts holding the stabilizer on there. Should the front wheels be off the ground? Thanks Chris |

Good Morning D2 People, Just finished installing the OME Steering Stabiliser on my pig. Very simple task, took me about 30 minutes. Could have been quicker, but I am little hung over this morning..... Anyway, Chris, there is no special trick required. Just pop two bolts, remove old, install new, and re-torque. Very Simple.
After removal of the LR version, I compared the two for stroke resistance and rebound. At 29K on the LR version, the stroke was very soft and there was almost zero rebound compared to the new OME. It's too early to tell how the new OME effects steering and or vibration. Paul '00 pig |

To Ho, and anyone else interested. I changed mine out at the same time as Paul. I had approximately 10,150 miles on the stock damper. I can tell a slight difference in normal driving, but the real deal comes into moderate speed (35mph) hitting pot holes with 1 front tire. No longer does the steering wheel jump to one side with off set bumps. I would imagine there would be similar effects when off roading, making the wheel a little more stable. The pure size of the product versus stock were impressive too. The OME makes the stock damper look like a plastic kids toy. While my stock damper still has lots of life in it, I'm happy with the improvement and will be keeping the OME on there. Anybody need a stock damper? hehehe Greg |

paul, minor detail question. in the dII shop manual i have, it says to unweight the front of the truck. did you jack up the front or is that not really needed. just curious - i ordered my steering damper from the HO this morning. mike holmes |

Hi Mike, No "unweighting" of the pig required. It seems to me that you would want the vehicle on the deck to keep the panhard (track) rod from moving while breaking that torque. Which by the way was a prick to do, hungover or not. Paul '00pig |
