I have a 97 Disco with 103K miles. Lately, when I run the A/C full blast and leave the car idling in Park, it seems that after about 10 - 12 minutes, the coolant temp. begins to rise quickly. Once I begin driving it goes back to normal (somewhere slightly below the halfway point). I am guessing (hoping) all I need is a coolant flush and new coolant. Any thoughts Bryan |

Hope away. With 97K on the clock you probably need a new radiator. You can limp along and cross your fingers, but the final result will almost assuredly be a new radiator. I just gave in and put a new one in my Disco yesterday. Ran it in the driveway for at least half an hour with the A/C on and the needle never even rose past the normal temp. |

Bryan, I recently was experiencing the same symptoms as you. I was guessing thermostat so i pulled that and it wasn't the problem. Still heating up like a ho in church. Drove home about 200 miles with the heat blowing and the windows down and 90+ degrees outside, that was alot of fun. Came home and completely flushed the radiator and even used the Prestone flush. From the little that you could see in there, the rad actually looked fine, and when flushing, no crap came out besides fluid. I also removed the front grill and sprayed out the fins on the rad in the front, and the back as well. Mine was crudded up pretty well from mud and leaves and other misc. Poop. Since that day, mine has been just fine. I have a '96 Disco with 115k. Start with the flush and spraying off crap., then try thermostat, if none of the above, you may need to get your rad. rodded out. Later.. RS |

Oh, and on a lighter note, I saw something called Purple Power or something that was supposed to reduce engine coolant temp by approx. 20% on that Trucks show on TNN yesterday morning, I was actually thinkin of trying it.. |

I have a '95 Disco and am having the same sort of problem. I'm going to check the viscous drive as I've heard the mechanical clutch on them goes bad pretty often. I've already flushed the radiator and changed the thermostat to no avail. I'll post my results. Good Luck. |
