I was planning on following the directions in the tech section to reset the Service Engine light, but when I went down there to look for the red unit, it wasn't there. There were two green and two yellow on the hinged mounting bracket that's bolted on. But one empty plug. I have a feeling the last time the light went on, the shop just removed the sensor thing instead of resetting it. What would the part number be? How much would it cost? |

I don't know, but do you have a reason for the light coming on? If you do not suspect anything is actually wrong with the truck, just undo the ground from your battery for 30 seconds or so. Be sure to have your radio code BEFORE doing this. However, if the light comes back on sometime in the next week, you might have an actual problem, not just a sensor trip. You should have your fault codes checked. http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net |

I thought the red service engine light was just for the emissions timer and the amber one is what signified a real problem. There's nothing wrong that I can tell. It starts, runs, and does everything fine. i'll try the battery trick tonight. anyone else have suggestions? what about the actual sensor - what part is that? |

Patrick, Yes, on your '97, red is "Service Engine", which is just the reminder light; the yellow "Check Engine" is the one that means a code has been thrown and you need to use and OBD-II reader to check it. Sometimes the box might not be red, but, it should be under there. Was there not any box with a sticker on one side at all? I don't know, but would think, that if the box was missing, either the service engine light would be on all of the time, or, never come on. Curious..... -L |

That's what i'm curious about. i checked all the boxes and none have a hole to place a pin; and none say TRW. there's a TRW building down the street, maybe they have some extras. JK. anyway the light came on a few months ago but i never got around to checking it because i knew it was due to the emissions test. well, when i finally looked at it this weekend, the GD box wasn't there. so now what? |
