Hi,

I have a 1998 Disco Series I, and the driver's side window stopped working today (of course, it would happen to be in the down position!)

I have verified that it is not the switch (swapped it with the passenger side window and it worked fine) and by same vein, clearly not the fuse.

I have disassembled the door and started the process of removing the regulator component, and as best as I can tell the window is fine in the tracks.

The piece that seems to be the problem is that the motor and the gear arm may not be engaging. What I need to know is how do I remove the assembly from the door in order to effect a repair. As far as I can see there are three bolts holding the gear arm and motor onto the gliders. The heads for these bolts are facing to the outside of the door and I don't know what kind of heads they are. I assume they must be some kind of inside-hex or torx.. anyone know?

Has anyone had this problem and if so, do you have any advice on how to fix? I will try and post some pictures here tomorrow but any immediate ideas would be great.

Am also going to hook up a multimeter to make sure current is getting to the motor. Power seems to be in that area as the driver's power mirror works fine.

There does not appear to be any sound coming from the motor unit itself when the switch is depressed. I assume that there is something which tells the motor when it is allowed to go up and down?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Phillip

Hi,

A bit of an update:

OK - put 12v to the motor directly and window goes up and down fine. So now I am confused.

here is what I know as facts:

- driver's side switch operates perfectly when passenger side cables attached to it
- driver's side motor works fine when 12v directly connected to it
- window moves fine on its runners
- at least positive power is available in the door as the power mirror works.

Any ideas?

Phillip

Check under the tech section here on DWEB, there is a writeup about fixing the rear electric window, I'm sure it would be somewhat similar. hope you got your window up, I had a bad regulator and had to drive around all day with the window down. At least it wasn't raining.
