Okay, yuppie scum or not. I was visiting my family, staying at a local hotel over the weekend. Valet parked my DII in a garage (as their is no street parking ANYWHERE). Anyway, they never mentioned my tall vehilce would be a problem. I even warned the attendant not to take it anywhere with a ceiling below 8ft. Low and behold, I just noticed last night, my roof rack (LR Adventure) looks like it was driven into a combat zone. The fellow who parked it on either of two occasions, definitely drove into a low hanging ceiling or bar. The top half of the rack is bent down towards the roof of the car. With scratches all along the top portions of the rack. It looks like the jackass hit the front part of the rack, then must have kept on driving. The rack moved slightly on one side, from what I can see. It pulled the rain gutter plastic along with ittowards the back of the rig. But only an inch. Not far enough for the light mounts to connect with the roof. Nothing actually connected with the roof of the car itself. It looks like the rack took the hit. Anyway, as I deal with the parking company and hotel. My biggest concern is that I don't know what kind of structural or other damage a hard hit like this may have done to the roof superstructure. Has similar happened to anyone else? Can anyone point out some things I should look for immediately to ensure the truck is sound as far as the roof goes? If you want to know, it happened at the Charles Hotel in Boston. Standard Parking runs the garage and valet.... Thanks, Dave |

Dave, It seems to me that the gutter in which the rack attaches is your sacrificial lamb. The gutter is replaceable and not that expensive. I would remove the rack and gutter and inspect for any other damage in that area. Then, make the parking folks buy you a new rack, a gutter, and a latte. Paul a fellow yuppie scum that paid to much for a D2 rack |

That's the plan Paul. Thanks for the verification. Do you think their is a resale market for a used, slightly crushed adventure rack? |

Dave: You might try going to your insurance company for a claim and suggest to them that they subrogate against the parking company's insurance company. This could well be your path of least resistance. Paul |

Thanks Paul. So far, the people who own the garage have been working diligently to get the issue to their insurance and to make me happy. But if anything does sour the situation, my first action will be to get my insurance involved. I'm holding off on getting my insurer involved strictly because of the sizable deductible involved. For now at least. |
