This weekend i finally installed those damn little orange marker lights into my ARB bumper. I then proceeded to wash the pig and (can u guess where this is going?) low and behold the arb light stops working and the front side marker stops working. I didn't get a chance until last night to go for bulbs, as I am assuming that the bulb is out or something, and when I open the ARB light up to get the bulb out, it dumps out about a cup of water. The connects are corroded, the light bulb was full of water, and needless to say I'm pissed. I got it cleaned up as best I could using some WD40 to get the rust and corrosion off the terminals, then reset the rubber seal and put in a new bulb. It's working now, but who knows how long till the corrosion eats away at the contact. And, is it going to leak again? Anyone else had problems with these little shit lights? Seems like a dumb place to put a light that is not water tight, and apparently isn't going to drain when it does get wet. |

Greg, Not sure if they still do this - but they used to supply a bulb that was way to big for the fixture - which is why you see many melted lenses. Change to a smaller bulb. Also - when I still had mine - I sealed the lense to the housing with some silicone - just a light coat, but it seemed to work. Finally - the connections to the harness they supply are also shit - I changed mine for GM weather pak connectors. After all that It was fine (gotta love that quality from the mfg!) |

By chance do you know the model number for the bulbs you have? I went to pep boys to get another bulb for the fixture, and of course, they label everything as car specific with no wattage indication on it. You have to use a stupid computer to look up your car and light need to get a number. I had no clue how to tell which light was which. I got a temporary light that works, but it is 23watts. I only stuck it in to get the thing going and diagnose the problem. Now I need to find a low wattage bulb somewhere that fits, and do the silicone trick. Also, where did you get your GM assembly? Buy another fixture to disasemble and install? Thanks, Greg PS - What the f##k is up with making the lamp enclosure mounting system the same that seals it? How stupid. Good grief. I really didn't want to install the little bastards, but I've been getting hassled over them not being there and my inspection is due this month. |

Greg, Sorry - I don't have the bulb p/n here at work, but I just looked at the stock at Pep Boys until I found a bulb that had an 1156/1157 base but was a much smaller bulb (both diameter and wattage). If I remember, there was only one that fits the bill. As far as the weatherpak connectors go, P-Boys has those also in their electrical connector section. The 2-conductor males and females are sold seperately. Yeah - the whole assembly from ARB was pretty shitty and haphazard - Oh well, guess they build bumpers and lights are an afterthought. Okay, I have officially decided that the lights on the ARB are the absolute biggest piece of shit I have ever seen. That is the worst light fixture I believe has ever been constructed for use in a car. I think the "blazer" crap from Walmart is probably of better quality than the fricking ARB indicator lights. I got a new bulb, #63, same base as 1156 rated at 13 volt and 7 watt. Only thing I could find smaller than the 1156 bulbs. When I opened the one problem fixture, it was full of water again. From last nights rain I assume. As soon as I get the sucker inspected, those damn things are coming out. gp |

Scratch that last post. Just as soon as I wrote it last night, I realized I had written the wrong number. Not 63. It should have been 67. Then I paniced as I had just siliconed the bulbs into the fixture based on the above thread. Well, just one more reason for me to hate the lights. I put the wrong damn bulb in. I accidentally picked up 63 instead of 67, so I had to open it all back up again last night and change the bulbs once more. I only had the 1156 bulbs on hand, so thats what went in. My little tube of silicone sealant I bought at pepboys decided to rupture and dump silicone all over me and the drive, and I ended up so pissed that I just don't care. Today, it is my mission in life to find some sealed LED bulbs to wire into those little fricking ARB fixtures and the to hell with the water. Let it swim in water. I don't care. I hate ARB marker lights. ARB, I hope you are reading this, because your marker lights SUCK. Please, please, please bring them up to par with the rest of your stuff. |
