Got a nice puncture on the Taconic at the weekend...a nail through the sidewall, BRAND NEW TIRE with less than 100 miles on it! This forces the issue now, cos I have 2 new Goodyears on the front, and 2 cupped noisy ones on the back...these tires are crap. Noisy as hell and handle only OK...and they "cup" very easily...same on my brothers 2000 D2...and I see it all over on other cars....sooooooooooo what to replace these with...std size for road use only....reccs anyone??? |

16" or 18"? I agree that the stock tires are less than optimal but I have a set in my basement with 20k miles on them with some life still left on them so I don't think it's fair to say that all the stock tires are as bad as you say. And I wouldn't call them noisy. |

The Pirelli Scorpion ST is a direct fit. Much better tire. |

just bought some Michellins this morning 255/r65/16 The dealer told me these would last longer than those Goodyear Wranglers - I got 30K out of mine before a nail on the sidewall did them in. He said they are good for about 35K where the Michelin LTX are good for about 60K - not for heavy offroad use though - |

Just did precisely that...Mich LTX....which I had on my 94 D1 also....these are great tires...good roadholding, silent and won't go outta shape like the Goodyears...I have 2 NEW Goodyears left over for sale cheap for anyone with cupped tires they need to replace....look in the for sale section. General Grabber ST - standard tires on the ML's(also 255/65-16). Tread design is heavily biased toward on-road performance/noise/ride comfort. It's also H-rated. Lots of good owners' reviews/comments from Tirerack & Mbnz.org. Also comparitively cheap - $98. |
