Just replacing my auto trans fluid, not filter, and am curious as to how much fluid to put back in.

I know that the capacity is about 9.5qts, but if the torque converter holds existing fluid how much should I actually add? I have put in 4qts so far, which seems a bit low to me, but the dipstick shows just over the full mark. Is this about right or do I need to let it sit longer to settle? It's sat for about 1/2 hour so far.

Any info appreciated.

When you dumped the fluid you should have measured how much actually came out. If you still have the old fluid, pour it back into your empty containers or ANY gauged containers for that matter.

If your dipstick SAYS full, then it is full.

I don't know what you did, but when I pull the plug on the transmission sump, I only have ever gotten MAYBE 4-5 quarts to drain out....EVER.
