I would like to replace the springs/shocks on my 1999 D1, but don't want a lift of more than 2 inches and don't want to comprimise the ride quality. Any suggestions? OME vs. Bilsteins. And why HD parts?

I just went with 2" OME springs and shocks on my 98 D1. I'm very happy with the overall ride. It is a little stiffer than stock but I have read others who say Bilsteins are even firmer than OME. Went HD since the springs are variable rate. Loaded up the vehicle for an across country trip and it road fine and level.

Mark, do you know the rates/specs on those progressive springs? Thanks.

Go to the Expedition Exchange site. There's a lot more info there.

I just did the OME spring and shock install last weekend on my 92 RRC, basically same as your 99 D1. I went with OME HD 751 springs in front and 781 medium/heavy duty in back, I won't be loading the vehicle too much and the 781's in back were a perfect compromise. The ride is a little firmer, but if you want to keep it as soft as the stock ride you may want to go with medium duty's all around with OME shocks. When I ordered my springs and shocks from EE, I specifed all passenger side springs, they are a little shorter than the driver side springs and the lift will be slightly less, if that's what you want.

Petern12,

There are some tables with the OME spring rates and other specs at:
