I've had so many sets of BFG A/Ts that I've lost count. In the past 12 years, I have thrashed these tires without any incidents of them having been chewed up on rocky road. I have eight months and about 25K on my current set with quite a bit of 'wheeling on them and the tread is still in fine shape. I have also had a set of the Cooped OTD mud tires. They didn't last and were worthless in snow. The Coopers had without a doubt, the worst tread life I've ever encountered. That said, they were a good mud tire and I wll buy another set of them for dedicated trail tires. Paul |

I have BFG MTs and run them on everything, from my daily 75 mile highway commute to a 2500 mile journey (ranged from hundreds of mile of unimproved roads to cement highways). They have been good to me. John www.teampb.com |

I cannot speak for the Cooper STT's (mud terrains), but I run coopers on my F350 and all our company trucks because they last so long and handle well (and are priced right). I've tried them all in some pretty tough inustrial/quarrying applications and BFG/Goodyear do not hold up at all. I can't speak highly enough of Coopers - but admittedly have yet to try the muds..... Are you talking MT or AT? It makes a huge difference when looking at these two brands. eep in mind, all my past experience is with Jeeps. I have not bought tires for my D1 yet. IMO for MT BFG is by far superior. However for AT I would only buy the Cooper. In the area where I live (Seattle) it "tends" to rain. When I have had the BFG AT they hydroplanes like mad, were unsafe on the roads, tread life was horrid, and sucked in the mud. When I switched to the Cooper the tires noise was a little louder but I got close to 100K on a set, mud was OK, and the hydroplaning was no more. That and the Coopers were about $40 cheaper per tire... Todd |

Todd: I had almost the exact opposite experience with BFG A/Ts. I had them on a Grand Cherokee work vehicle. I put about 40K on them when I sold the Jeep, and they still had a decent amount of tread left. They were pretty good in all conditions except mud where I'll agree; they sucked. They sucked in mud and turned into slicks. However, in rain and snow, I thought they were pretty good. |

FWIW - I had BFG A/T's on my D90 - they were great, even in mud! I have Durango's on my RRC (it's a Cooper M/T but with no-name branding) and they work in rain, mud and normal surfaces. I've driven them at (relatively) high speed for hours at a time and they held up. M/T's are noisier, of course, and I don't drive like an idiot so that wet grip is a problem. If money were no object, I'd get BFG's. Since it is (!) I like my Coopers. I plan to fit Coopers to my Disco 1 when the Mich's wear out. |

i have the futura mud terrains for almost a year now (these are the same as the cooper muds)and i have taken them down to the tip of baja (played around down there for a couple of months) then drove all the way back to the bay area via the scenic routes and the tires are doing great! also have done several trips to the southern sierras and other places..have about 20k on them there are some obvious scars on them, but overall i was totally impressed..heck for only 79.99 a tire they are awesome...!! |

I have the Futura M/T's too. They are made by Cooper, and rebranded as Futura for Pep Boys. |

I've got the Cooper STTs and have no problems with them and certainly when I bought them, they were $94 each v £140 for the BFG MT. This was for the 750r16 size cooper and 235/86 BFG |

Just to clarify, the Cooper ST is not the same as the STT. The ST (sure trac) is in between AT and MT Tire. The ST was designed for the Aussie outback so may not be available in USA. http://www.coopertires.com.au/tyres/st.htm |

cooper cant see as far as the aussie outback the stt is the mud tire the st is an aggresive at the st's are avalable at fleet farm and have been for years cooper tires are cheap and perform that way ...they do wear pretty fast but give good traction during that time. when we were comparing all kinds of mud tires back in 94 we saw almost no difference between cooper, dunlop,or BFG...the old (first)goodyear MTR did show a slight straight line traction advantage but they dont last long, suffering strange wear paterns. |

myself and george s. are driving on cooper st's. this is my second set of them and i really like them. the set i am on now are 265/75's with a load range of C. they ride great and are pretty quiet and more importantly seem to do pretty well in many conditions i have been in off road. they have always worn well and not any faster than any other tire i have used. (i.e. Bridgestones, Goodyears, etc.) they seem to work best with the white letters out too!! haha. |

It always amazes me how when someone asks for opinions on two tires people always volunteer info on completely different tires. Seems half the posts were on the SST's. VERY different tire. The ST was indeed tested in the Ausie Outback and designed for such purpose. It is studdable, is cheap, and looks pretty cool. I know its decent in the snow but I dont have much to compare it to. It does seem to wear fast however. I love the BFG AT and have found it to last a LONG time on dirt roads. MUCH longer than most other AT's I've tried. And my best friend and I both lived on Dirt roads so they got lots of use. THe are great in snow, corner decently. THey are fairly loud but I dont know how loud the ST's are. Myself, I'm trying to decide between the ST and the Dunlop RT. I've ruled out the BFG AT's for hydroplaning since I've moved from Spokane(dry, snowy with lots of dirt roads) to Seattle (wet, rainy wiht lots of pavement and concrete). I'm still leaning towards the Dunlop RT's but they are pricy. Any opinions on ST vs RT???? THanks TOdd Phenneger 94 Disco |
