I will be attending a Dealer event this weekend and I expect it to be very muddy. What would a good tire pressure be for stock 255/65 16 inch Michelins. I realize for a thick mud&clay mix they will suck, but I am just trying to get them to work the best that they can.

For mud on street tires you might be better off with street pressure. Lowering the pressure might cause the small groves to close-up. But it's best to experiment. Only you can really tell based on your vehicle weight and the conditions of the trail. First try airing down in your driveway and measure the sidewall with street pressure. Then air down until you get about 75% of the height of your street pressure and this should give you a baseline of what you can air down to. On my D2 with 265/75's and all the gear I generally run 18psi up front and 20-22 in the rear. If I'm running light I'll go as low as 12-15psi in some conditions such as soft sand.

Is this the event put on by the dealers in the Puget Sound area?

Peter-

What's up with that event? Someone at worked mentioned it to me and I've heard nothing about it other than you have to pay $100+ to participate. Give me a break... For what I paid for my truck I could attend their event 30+ times and still come out ahead rather than buy from them.

This is the Chicago area event in Lake Geneva Wis. Its free. We just had 7 to 10 inches of rain so I am expecting a little mud.

Todd,
I saw some poster for it when I was at the dealership a couple weeks ago. $100 and I think you had to pack your own food. Said to take you over some pass and then show the capabilities of your vehicle. A little more involved than the little dealer courses some places have I guess. If it was free I'd think about it just to watch some stock Discos (but that's what we have you for, huh? :) )but I'm not going for $100. That's a couple days of good rafting around here.

Steve, Yikes!! That will make some handy mud.

Damn! Another shot at the being stock. Damn you LOTTO!!! I want to win! I may have to sell my track rat yet to finance some mods. This wait is going to drive me nuts!.

You know, some of us prefer to build our Disco rather than to buy pre-built . At least that is what I am trying to convince myself... had I had the opportunity to trade my Dodge on a nicely built Disco I would have jumped on it. As it stands I feel luck to have gotten the deal I did.

And it's not stock, I have one of these on it!

It has to count for something, right?

I'd suggest 12 on the front and 14-15 on the rear. I just took a buddy out last weekend and this pressure seemed to work for his stock tires. Your wider GYs should work even better than those Michelins he had.

Todd, that ain't yours. Your rig is white!!!

And on the tire pressure front, can someone out there with some math skills and pressure knowledge tell me if I aired down to an average of 15PSI on 235/85-16 tires, and I had a 5 gallon tank at 130PSI....would I have enough air to bring them all up to 35PSI?
I know I could go home and try it but since I'm at work I figured there's someone out there that really likes the math challenge. :)

Sorry. Should have included the disclaimer that the pictures posted was not mine.

If's Friday, what do you expect?
