If your installing new spings and shocks why would you not replace the steering damper? It has a few miles also. The damper looks like a shock and is mounted to the steering components under the engine. As for the lift itself, you don't need the new steering damper today. You can replace it yourself after the OME lift is done. - Mark |

Ted, I just upgraded to OME shocks/springs about a month ago. I did not replace my steering dampner. It is a good time to do it since you're already dirty and have your rig down though. I plan on replacing mine with the OME dampner in the near future. So, to answer your question, No, you don't have to have a new steering dampner. Peace..R S |

Ted, Sorry for being somewhat vague. I made the assumption that since you have a 98' that it probably has say 50-70K miles on it. Mine had 63K miles and while the stock shocks felt somewhat worn, the OME made a big difference. If your installing new springs and shocks why not go ahead and replace the damper? Another aspect, if your going with a lift will you go with larger tires? Bigger tires mean more unsprung weight to dampen. That factory damper has been working for you for many miles now. Land Rover will have the factory replacement but I bet it's more than the $55 for a OME. Another thing to consider :-) What about the D-90 setup vs the Disco setup. You have the option of either. - Mark |
