Jess, ARB's are completely transparent on the road because you are still running an open diff until you lock the ARB. A Detroit is a full mechanical locker, and will (or may) cause some slightly different handling characteristics on the road. A TrueTrac is a limited slip, and will transfer about 75% of the available torque to the tire with traction. Some people like the ARB's because they are "transparent" on the road, however, some people have had or have seen others have reliability issues because of all the components involved. Others (like myself) prefer the mechanical lockers because of their simplicity. I have a TT up front and Detroit in the rear of my '00 DSII. The TT was perfect up front for me because a TT tends to "self-center" and this helped compensate for my loss of castor because of my lift. |

Jess, You can put a TT in the front or rear axle or both, and you can put an ARB in the front or rear axle or both, and you can mix-n-match. A DL should only go in the back on a Disco, and you can use either a TT or an ARB in the front with it. None of these are for the center diff. On a DI, you can lock the center diff. Year-dependant, you can modify a DII to also have a lockable center diff. -L |

tt designed for the rear cannot be placed in the front, a tt designed for the front cant go in the rear. quaife can do both i beleive. also they make a LSD center diff that is still fully lockable. http://www.expeditionexchange.com/quaife/index.htm http://www.expeditionexchange.com/tractech/index.htm http://www.expeditionexchange.com/arb/index.htm rd |
