I'm trying to run down the source of my most recent problem....stumbling idle (most noticeable when the A/C is on). I added a bottle of injector cleaner, cleaned the stepper (so I don't think it's the problem, but it might be worth replacing with one of the NAPA or Delco units) the flame T and the crankcase breather filter/hose. Any ideas of where/what to try next? Would fuel temp sensor cause rough idle? How about running seafoam throught the system, could a sticky valve be the source? |

I have this too (Still, again!). You dont mention year, but the 96-97 are listed as having problems with inlet manifold gasket leaks. I had mine replaced 20k km ago, and it cured the problem for quite a while, but it came back. Check for oil leaks at front of block, or rear, and if you have some, thats probably your trouble. I have replaced stepper, TPS, plugs, cap, leads to no avail. If you watch the surging, it occurs when the AC compressor cycles OUT, not as I expected when it comes IN. jp |

Ken, JP- 95 DI, new plugs and rotor last month, new Magnecor wires and dizzy cap in the last 6 months. JP- I do have oil leaks but I assumed they were part of the Rover active corrosion protection system Mine also surges with the A/C off, just not as much. Is it difficult to fix the inlet manifold gasket, any idea on cost? |

To add to the problem I feel some stumbling in the idle when driving at low speeds (less than 10 mph) and I had coolant leaking from th4e rear of the block below the plenum. Any other suggestions. |

Bryan, Rough response to adding throttle at low speed can be due to worn TPS giving a 'noisy' signal, or a failed vacuum advance unit on dizzy. Suck on the line to vac unit to see if it holds vacuum - if not, replace. |
