I am in the process of making my own roof rack.
I would appreciate if someone had a detailed pic of roofrack to gutter mounting brackets.
Also I have been advised to lay a galvanised channel into the disco gutter channel to reinforce it and to spread the roofrack mounting load. Any pic or advise would be appreciated.
Regards from Australia

Here ya go. I'm assuming you mean the standard Safety Devices Adventure Rack. Following that is Yakima's standard Raingutter 1A mount. The Safety rack looks a lot better since it's gutter part is flat to help distribute some weight.

Thanks PCAREY for the pix, I rang ARB in AUS to try to buy their mounting brackets, but as I'm making my own rack they fobbed me off. I rang a few other suppliers but they only want to sell the racks with it. I was needing some inspiration on design, your adventure rack brackets look promising, thanks heaps.

LR will sell you rack hardware for $160...can't remember which online store I saw that in....I thought it was a ridiculus price, but then what isn't from LR.

Yeah,. but me being a scrooge and a bit of a handyman, I'm trying to take the cheap option and do it myself. Not to mention the satisfaction of making it myself. It'll cost me about $150 AU bucks to make one, that's materials and having the metal supplier do the bending of the round tube. They do charge heaps for the bending, as the material for 25mm tube is only $18AU for a 6 metre length.

M. Recke,
I am planning on building my own as well and have been studying the available racks for a while. If you don't mind I would really appreciate any photos, plans, or diagrams of what you are building for ideas. I have a friend that is a great welder and has a pipe bender as well.

I have another fellow Disco owner that has built a few of them who is supposed to send some plans. Haven't seen photos of his yet.

Shane , Will do when finalised, I am not going the full length rack though. I'm building a half . Most of my long distance travelling is done with a trailer in tow. I'm making this rack for short sorties. I am getting ideas from brochures such as ARB's, and various 4WD mags and glancing at every rack I see travelling on the road
Cheers

Thanks! I have been doing the same checking out all the racks I can find but haven't got started yet. Never thought of doing a half rack, that may be the way to go.

G'day boys,

I have just received my full length, two level roofrack from TJM and I though I might contribute to this thread by sending a few pics of the mounting brackets.

roofrack
gutter
bracket

the only non block coated material here is stainless steel.

Note that the two front and rear legs are linked together by a flat piece of steel to even the load on the gutter.

I hope this will add some idea :)

Best regards from New Caledonia.

Erik SCHALL.

Don't know if anyone here has tried these, but the hannibal roof racks look good, although hard to come by in the US.

Thanks Erik for the pix, I see what I was told about the gutter channel reinforcing is correct. I Viewed an ARB rack on a new Nissan Patrol here in AUS and it had a galvanised angle steel inserted under the rack legs to spread the load. I just this minute picked up all my steel from the metal merchant and am going to the garage to try some serious welding and get the rack going
