After all the talk here about the nasty stuff that's been found in various folks oil pans and pickups - since I was underneath all weekend pulling everything else off the damn truck, I said what the hell, its only a few more bolts Anyway - I expected the worst since there was form-a-gasket oozing out 3/8" on all sides of the pan (dealer job), but much to my surprise everything was clean as a whistle inside. The pan and pickup were so clean that I didn't even use the parts washer- just resealed and bolted right back up. Go figure - one thing I'm convinced of now (was kind of wavering before) was to stick with the Mobil 1 and Amsoil I've always used. Not saying that was 100% the reason, but it's enough for me. Bill, I think im going the Mobil 1 and Amsoil later on as soon as i write off some of the repair costs. I'm pulling the sum pan this week while the heads are in the shop. If it does not look as craped out as the upper end i will be really surprised. I washed down the valley with kerosene and i am letting it sit in the sump for a few days hopefully that will wash it all out. |

Zak, I use Amsoil and Mobil 1 oils interchangebaly - whatever I have on hand or can afford at the time and filters I use Mobil 1 or Delco Gold (ford smallblock filters) Dee, I was really thinking about going back to dino, but I probably won't now. I use dino in the wifes RRC, but she puts on so many miles, I'd go broke with synthetic - hell, the trucks got 140K on it and going strong, so I won't mess with it. Good luck with whatever you may find down there - for your sake, hope it's as clean as mine was. I'll be curious to see what you find |
