Stick with 245/75 tires
no worries on rubbing on road

thats about as big as you should go though

Same question for me but I do off road with my 95 Disco. Would that tire rub a lot off road or should I go smaller? If so what size keeping stock suspension. May take an act of congress to get a suspension upgrade my Disco is a company vehicle so I am trying to figure out what I can do with it.

Anon- why do you want bigger tires if you aren't going to take it off road? What are those bigger tires going to do for you on the street?

I would like to know too. I like my truck the height that it's at now - so if I can avoid a lift I'd still be happy (ignprant of the benefits of a lift - but happy in my ignorance!).
Right now I'm running 235/70 Michelin XPC M/S tires. I'm looking at replacing them soon as they are getting close to the end of their life span.
But this time I would like a bit more aggressive tire. My driving is 70% road, 20% gravel/forestryroads, and 10% doubletrack trails.
Any reccomendations on tire size (without the lift) and type of tire?
I would be open to exploring the lift though - can anyone suggest an archived thread on the subject? From a beginners view with prices and what's involved?

Most likey anon just wants the look of an off road truck. We have TONS of lifted trucks, jeeps, etc around here that NEVER see any dirt.

I'm in a similar situation, I would like larger/ more agressive tires for off roading but my 5' tall wife does not want the truck lifted. I know, tell her not to drive it etc., so what are the largest i can go with. I wouldn't mind staying with the same size, but there are not to many serious off road tires in that size i can find. I'd love to fit a pair of swampers on a pair of steel's as for just an offroading set of wheels.

So, what's out there?

I'd REALLY rathe not trim the fender. Does anyone make those clips for pushing the fender out a bit?

What tire brands would be best for just an offroading tire? Swampers, Proline, etc, and what size. They seem to only ahve larger sizes, and I don't know how to traslate the sizes from 29/7 into metric.

Thanks,

Z

Hey guys! I have a '97 SD and I just bought 4 BFG All Terrains in the 235/70-16 size. When I cycle the suspension these tires just fit in the rear. That's with the swaybar still attached! Anything bigger will most likely get cut up or damage the body or both. Trimming the rear would be necessary.

Hey Z
The clips are simply metal brackets bought at any WalMart (2"x1/2" or so) that you bend into a "Z" shape with a hammer. All you need to do is undo 1 screw at the fender mount and screw the bracket in its place. With the cheap bastard lift and the fender bracket I was able to fit 265/75/16 Trxus tires with no rubbing

Emilio, you have to be a registered user in order to post pic. Just register, once you've entered your password, the 1kb limit will be lifted.

Zak,

Get something like Alyssa did. 15x7.00 power king bias plys on 15in series III steel wheels. They ended up a bit over $300 and with them the disco can keep up with locked D90s on BFG MTs. They are ~30in but tuck and don't rub at all. You cannot underestimate the value of a really aggressive tire in mud.

Sounds good to me Ron. Where can I get those rims at, and what size tires are they again? Seems like there is a number missing.
