After not being able to get the thing started (and checking almost everything), had it towed to the dealer and they found the crank sensor bad, just dead.

I've never heard of this causing the rig not to start, anyone ever have this problem? There's no mention of anything relevant in the archives.

Verdict: crank sensor found caked with mud, failed. Apparently the heat shield does not seal it from mud and water. Yet another spot to silicone on the D2...also another spare part to carry around.

It's in a weird location, up at the back of the engine, drivers side, behind the downrunner. Looks like I'll have to take the heat shield off to see if I can seal it with silicone.

Sorry I couldn't get a better shot, I couldn't get the camera up in there.
