Going to the Outer Banks. I'll be hanging out doing alot of nothing and then maybe do some fishing for White Marlin or Tuna.
Maybe we need to take a run down some trails and test those out after you install them. |

I've replaced every green oval on my disco and all the roundels on the other cars in my driveway with them. They flank the soccer ball stickers. And I keep my winch safe with a BIG OBX front plate. 
Where are you guys going? I might be able to but have to check on the 21st. I actually have to work a few saturdays for the next few months. |

I was kidding Rob. I thought the soccer ball sticker comment gave that away. The only stickers on my Disco (or any car in my driveway) are the ones required by the state and a small US flag on my rear window. |

Read the threat in the Trail Information section, there is an Isuzu (SP?) group going down, and they invited us to come along. Sounds like fun to me. Not to many rocks down there to dent up teh new sliders though. |

well i just wanted to see if i was the only one that hates the OBX stickers.
the licences plates, i believe, come standard on ford explorers in my area. i hate those even more.
i have much, much hate for obx, i hate it so much i think i want to put a sticker on my truck to lure in waves and acknowledgements from other OBXers so i can hunt them down and beat them.

Good luck with the sliders, they're really not too bad as long as you double-check your fit before every drill and a 90-degree angle drill helps too. |

OBX stands for the Outer Banks. They're in North Carolina just south of Virginia Beach. In fact you can drive on the beach all the way to VA. Hatteras is part of the Outer Banks.

OBX is an advertisement so that more and more people will go to the outerbanks of NC and build more and more giant houses to attract more and more people to spend more and more money so then they can build more and more strip malls so that it will look like Kansas City. |

Zak,
I saw your sliders today at Rovertym. They look real purdy. John hadn't boxed them yet as of 2:30 PM when I took mine home. I won't have all that help your getting... and I've actually got some several year old Zima in the spare fridge. I don't like Z... but I couldn't bear to toss ...ohol if there might be someone who would consume it. How long does Zima keep ?
Back to your sliders... remember what Neal told us ? We'll probably need a 90 degree angle drill attachment to get to the spots just inside the back doors... unless you plan to remove the doors.
If I don't give blood tomorrow, I might install my sliders. There's a serious shortage and they need some of my A+ juice.... No I don't plan on giving blood while installing the sliders. I plan to be careful. But giving blood and then doing heavy lifting is a big NO NO down at the Blood Bank.
John is well aware of "Zak" and the DWeb traffic about your sliders. |

I installed mine without an angle drill. It's been a while but I think I just used a short (4-5") drill bit to start the hole. |

Thanks for the offer of help.
I'm one of those folks that never knows exactly when work starts and/or ends. I need to get the longer drill bits and the 90 degree chuck.... probably at Sears... since the in-laws gave me a b-day gift certificate to the mall. My MIL thinks I'm buying clothes. John didn't give me any "paper" instructions. I'll be using the instructions for the DII slider install that are on the web.
Rans,
John is located along rt 360 SW of Midlothian, VA.
His shop is in a small industrial park behind the gray painted Shell station. There's a new WaWa somewhat across 360 from the Shell. You can't see Rovertym from 360 and if coming from the East, its on your left and you'll have to go past the Shell station and do a Uturn. I'm not sure why you'd go there unless you just wanted to visit or pickup and order. There's no showroom... but there is a very nice machine shop.
"Close" is a relative term... it took me about 2 hours to get there.
If you go there, be sure to look at John's truck-of-many parts/pieces. He's added some new gouges, scratched, and dents. It doesn't look at all like the truck I saw at Uwharrie in the Spring.

Don't pester John into another heart attack.

Nothing I know that you don't know. I just think I had first shot at them. I had already made a commitment to a friend at the dealer to buy the new rack that was ordered for me, and Chris was unsure of the timing on that one. I suggest he go with the round robin idea, although I'm sure he had already thought of it.
I haven't seen the rack though and don't know any details on it. Not even a price. |

Man wagon, I like that. My wife hurt her back, and has a hart time getting in and out of the Miata and the stiff ride really hurts her back. We work at hte same office, but she's been working from home for the past month, so i've been driving the little thing. I like it, needs a supercharger though, and a roll bar.
Took the man wagon today though. After that rain, i have a few construction sites i wanted to drive through!!!

My sliders arrived today!!!! Although I forgot I had John ship them to my work address. Oops, I don't think there is a way of putting them in my miata!!!!

Nah, just like razzing Davis every chance I get. Don't know why really, just keeps me happy.
I like Greg's bumper and think it is probably well made, but honestly it is a little too snubbed for my tastes.
Again, I like the way it looks, but I have to keep my urban persuasion factor in mind. Not sure I could force my way with a bumper that hidden.
Besides, I'm actually holding out for your "ARB Conversion Process". Last time I mentioned it, you said you would get to me eventually, so I'm just waiting.

Wish I could be there to watch/kibitz.... but its a bit too far for just the day and I think I might go to a British car fest on the other side of the mountain....if they let me in.
Keep the First Aid kit handy and "speed-dial" setup for 911.
I went to the local metalworking shop today and gave them a sketch for a side step for my sliders.
1/4" steel plate. John @ Rovertym has them for $95 ...but since he didn't give me a "free" ($600+) T-shirt... I'm having a step made for about $30. |

Paul is quick!!
John at Rovertym did a great job fabricating these sliders. they fit like a glove on OJ!!
It took us about 4 hours to put them on. Would have been a bit shorter, but I needed a different 1/2" drill bit.
Thanks to Paul, Todd, and Greg to coming over and giving me a hand. Actually it's more like putting them on for me. Todd and Paul are animals with tools!!!!! And no one can sit in a chair and "supervise" like Greg!!
Great day. It all went smooth except for Paul not quite following ALL the directions, and putting one to many rivinuts on the first slider. So the second slider is missing one. I'll get one and put it on when i take the sliders off to put the undercoating on.
Now all I need is a 1-2" lift and new tires. I've almost convinced my wife we need it now.

Congrats on the sliders !
You survived "Install Fest 2002" !
There were a few extra rivnuts in my installation kit. Everything else was exactly the right number of bolts, washers, lock washers.... So, if you need a couple, e-mail me your flat-mail address and I'll one (or two) ASAP..... ?
Did you use a right-angle drilling adapter ?

You guys took as long as it did for me to do mine by myself. I'd guess that there was a lot of planning/prep/discussion/analysis/pondering and drink breaks....ARR!ARR!ARR!
I did have the advantage of using an air-wrench to fasten and unfasten the bolts/nuts. If you did and undid them all by hand... I can understand it taking so long.
I'm sure you had a lot of fun though....and you did say that you needed a different 1/2 bit.
Don't ever say "Now all I need is......." because as far as I can tell, with this Rover addiction, ... it's NEVER over and you NEVER have enough stuff.
