Hi, I own a new Disco II V8 Automatic (6000 kms) and live in a very hot country where temp is frequently over 40°C. Once climbing a sharp hill (the car was 3000 kms) in long gear, I could smell burnt oil. I should have put he low gear, but i thought it would be ok with the auto gearbox... I was just coming at the top, so I kept-on driving in the descent to cool the car, then I stopped it after few hundred meters. I could never find the origin of the smell ENGINE, TRANSFER or GEARBOX. Any body has a clue ? THX |

How big was the hill? What was the engine temp indicating? I wish these things had oil temp gauges. |

One guess... When the DSII came to the US market, there were reports of differentials being only half filled from the assembly line. The front diff vent tube ends under the hood. Real easy to notice over heated diff oil from inside the truck. Regardless, for peace of mind, I would have changed all vital fluids after the incident. -Barry |
