Part #s
STC3703 -Front
STC3704 -Rear

I hear that these are Woodhead shocks. Am I correct?

Thanks,

I know most of you here on D-web think the stock shocks suck. But will they suck for someone driving 600+ miles a week, 75% hwy? Haven't really had the chance to offroad it yet. And probably won't for a some time.

For on road - you'd probably appreciate the Bilsteins much more.

Even if you still want Woodheads - don't buy them from the •••••••!! Call Nathan or one of the others.

There are better shocks available as aftermarket for less than the dealer prices on the Woodheads.

IMHO, FWIW.....

I think Bilstein have a new range of cheaper shocks. Still gas charged. Black painted instead of the known yellow/blue.
Part# are: BNE-6119 (rear)
BNE-6117 (front)

with these # the homepage (? www.bilstein.com) will probably give you more info.

Is yours a Disco I or II? I have some DII shocks and springs with 7K miles collecting dust in the basement....

Leslie,

What shocks did you have in mind? I got a pair of front and rear Woodheads for around 160.00
If I could get better shocks for the same amount or even less that would be great. I'm pinching pennies right now.

The yellow bilstein set (front and rear) sell for $300. I also do about %80 highway and they are definetely better than the woodheads. They give much better cornering and better control over bumps.

K.March: I just got 4 Old Man Emus for $140 , they were used ... about 500 miles worth. Just keep your eye out.

BTW, I am in richmond too and I just did my shocks/springs last weekend, so if you have any questions just lemme know.

You're not doing bad at 160, usually the dealer chargers more than that; you could go with Black Diamond XT for ~180.....

Eric;

I appreciate it. I'm replacing the shocks this weekend. Looks fairly simple to do. As of right now, every bump I hit on the road seems like it's 10 times the size it actually is. You know what thats like.
And aren't shot shocks bad for your tires too?

I think I'll stick it out with Woods for now. Thanks for all the feedback.

K.March:

Here are some tips for your shock replacement job:

1) PB Blaster-ize all the nuts the night before
2) Get yourself a good sized set of channel-locks to hold the bottom of the front shocks while you loosen the top and bottom nuts (they can be a bear, but the channel locks make it a breeze!)
3)If you have rear ac you might have to unbolt the ac line from its mooring point on the floor to move it out of the way of the left rear shock's top mounting bolt.

If you get stuck feel free to drop me an email. I live on the Northside/Laburnum Park area.

good luck!

kris, there are better shocks out there. for the ride you are looking for and the mods you plan to make i think a set of OME, Bilstein, or Edelbrock shocks would suite you. Granted they are about 10-30 more per shock, they all last longer then woodheads. A good set of shocks is a worthwhile investment.

Thanks, Albert.

Next suspension upgrade will be both springs and shocks. Using the better ones! :)
