The back door, on my Disco 1, that is - not from watching the babe in the General BB!

The hinge pins have started to bind up and the door is becoming realy tough to get open all the way. Has anyone else had this problem? There are no signs of corrosion on the hinges, and the truck is a 97, with only 42,000 miles. The back door gets used quite a bit, with 3 Goldens needing their 'bark-in-the-park' runs out!

Solutions?

Thanks

Buddy

Are you serious? Just LUBRICATE the hinges.

pop off the land rover oval and put some good grease in there.

Andy:
This is fairly common. If you're up to it, the pins can be driven out from the bottom, wire brushed and reinserted (Oops, The top one is driven out from the bottom, but I believe the bottom one must be driven from top to bottom). Remove them one at a time and make damned sure you have locked the door so one of your dogs doesn't try to open the door not knowing you have one of the hinge pins out. Seems we get lulled to complacency by the aluminium construction of our trucks!

Upon reassembly, use liberal amounts of lithium grease.

Also pay attention to the bar across the bottom as it also begins to bind and can make closing the door difficult as well.

There was somebody that was working on a means to grease these hinges. I would assume you could just drill a hole in the hinge, tap and insert a zerk for future greasing, but it might be just as easy to drive them out occasionally.

Thanks a bunch Paul - just what I needed to know. I thought someone would have the scoop on this issue. Although from a previous comment 'just lubricate' it appears that we have some 'luddite's on this BB!!

I apprecaite it.

Hey when are you up for a wheelin' trip?

Man Andy, I thought it was gonna be this weekend, but the wife put the kibosh on it last night and this morning, my Disco took a dive on me, and I'm driving a customer's Defender to the dayjob. I was almost three hours late-good thing my boss is out today.

The shipping on the oil pressure switch for overnight delivery during a holiday weekend is $31!. I'm hoping that it might just be the switch that was causing the whistling sound-yeah, it's a stretch, but it is a Rover.

Good luck with your truck. Those hinges might not want to come apart, but they are tied into a pretty substantial chunk of metal back there. Make sure you soak 'em real good before you tear into it.

3 goldens no big deal, try 2 goldens and a great dane. You quickly realize why you must have a roof rack on your rover to go anywhere. I thought about taking out the back seat permanently for more room, but my wife reminded me of the little bambino that sits back there, the whole baby thing takes time to get used too.

Karen:

No you didn't piss me off - I meant the header to be read as a little risque... so go ahead have a good giggle. I will too!

Hey Andy, I knew you wouldn't be pissed. :) I was referring to a previous thread where someone else got cranky when I made a joke. Just trying to uphold my tradition around here.
