I read a post earlier this week about an adaptor for the Disco Audio Plug that was for a VW car? Can someone tell me which plug this is and what VW it is for?
Thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but I will lend SOME knowledge, although somewhat limited.

As you may know, the CD deck in the Disco is an Alpine unit. You can buy the sme deck at most audio shops, it is model: CHM-S655RF, for about $280 if you shop around.

It comes with 2 methods of installation, one is direct hookup to any car/truck/SUV audio system with CD controls in the dash stereo (but this requires a vehicle specific adaptor from Alpine) or via RF which means you select a pre-defined specific channel on your stereo and you will receive the input signal from there. There is also a corded remote control and a wireless remote control included.

I know about this because we installed a unit like this into my wife's VW Cabrio so we could share the 6 disc cassettes between vehicles. I have another one that is about to be installed in the hard bag of my motorcycle. We bought an interface for the Volkswagen, which is probably the item you are speaking about, from the Alpine dealer, and I think it was about $90, but this provided a dash mounted interface that looks and acts factory installed.

As it may pertain to a Disco, I'm not sure if the interface is pre-installed in a Disco that didn't come with a CD player, but if it is, one could certainly install this CD in themselves for alot less than the gazillion bucks the st**ler charges.

Need more info? email me.

Crutchfield isn't much help though if your not buying yoru deck from them. ANd most places dont have a listing for a harness for the Discovery. Someone on this list posted about it in an Audio discussion from about a week ago but didn't reply when I asked for more info.
I already have a deck I want to install, I just dont want to hack up the OEM harness and would prefer to hook into the OEM power/ground/switched power/ant booster etc connections.
Any help appreciated. And thanks for the info on the Alpine unit Rans. I was going to do that but now I'm going for the entire system which means a 4channel amp will be put where the Factory changer goes and I will use an In Dash CD unit.
THanksw

call them up and say, i want to BUY a harness from you fo suit a land rover, and i belive you generally provide a volkswagen unit.

i cant belive they would sell you one, i mean a sale is a sale. plus it would allow themselfs a way to potentially sell you more products.

of course you may be right an they are just assholes.

on a side not i never did use the VW harness they gave me, i found it easier to rewire the entire truck.

I used the volkswagon adapter took me about 30-40 min to do the full install. I put in a Alpine 7894 unit cd/mp3. The adapter needed minor tweaks remove some plastic and swap the constant and switched power pins. Plus installed two ground loop isolators. 30-40 min install crystal clear sound through stock amp and stock speaker.

email me if you want any info.
