I just got some 265 75R16 tires for my d2. Will the spare fit on the rear tire carrier? If not, any suggestions to fix? Thanks, Tom |

It's a very tight fit. You can rotate the tire carrier to get it to fit right. |

Just flip the carrier. EE has a great tech write up on this very simple task. Paul '00 pig Disclaimer: The use of the word "flip" above is in reference to a 180 degree rotation of the tire carrier. There is no reference to those little island people. |

John at EE did this write-up documenting how to invert the rear tire carrier so to carry a 265. http://www.expeditionexchange.com/disco2tires/ However, I was too lazy to invert the carrier, as described above, I came up with another solution -- since I have a PowerTank mounted in the rear of my DSII, I simply deflated the rear spare and mounted it on the carrier. |

Paul: The phrase is FLIP, not TLIP. |

Al, "It's a very tight fit. You can rotate the tire carrier to get it to fit right" Are you saying that you were able to fit a 265/75/16 without messing with the tire carrier? If so how hard is it to close the rear door? Thanks, |

Yes, I did fit it and I have to give the door a good slam. It's a PITA but I was able to do it. The only reason I haven't "fixed" it is because the bumper now supports the weight of the tire. As I move to a bigger tire I will need to rotate the mount. |

IMHO - a simpler solution to inverting the carrier is to simlply drill new holes in the carrier 1/2" below the old ones. This method keeps the tire in the same location on the door (rather than moving the wheel to center). It also eliminates the need to trim the carrier to allow for the rear wiper arm. Curtis |

Thanks for the advice, I think I am going to drill the new holes first and see you that works. |

wouldent you drill them a 1/2" above to raise the tire? |

If the carrier is the same as a D1 then you can fit a 265/75/16. I put a BFG AT (brand new) on my D1 this weekend and it does no rub. The door is heavier but not a problem for me. |

Musky, if you drill the holes above the existing holes, then the mount would actually go down the 1/2". Draw it on paper and it will make sense. |

I think musky is right, shouldn't I drill above the holes to raise the tire. |

The tire mount has six holes, you would need to drill new holes below the existing holes on the carrier to raise it. You don't want to drill new holes in your rear door. The directions on EE are pretty easy even with notching the carrier. Either way you do it you will have to remove the inner panel to get to the nuts. You should get at least 6 extra plastic clips, because they will break removing them even if you are really carefull. I think they are like $.60 each. Good luck, Brian |

Just thought I would add that I just had my 265/75/16's installed and the door is not going to close with the tire on there without causing damage to the door. I tried giving it a good slam and even a push but it was not going to happen. If you are planning on adding 265/75/16 tires to your DII I would plan on fliping the tire carrier. YMMV FWIW IMHO BLA BLA BLA |

I must have hit my rear bumper one too many times on a rock because it fits. Either that or my fat ass has caused my bumper to sag and the tire to just fit on my D2. |

It could also just be the diffrence in tires, I am sure not all 265/75/16 tires are the same size. "Either that or my fat ass has caused my bumper to sag and the tire to just fit on my D2" I am sure if that was the case my tire would have fit fine : ) |

Cooper S/T 265/75/16 Looks like that could be the diffrence. |
