I want to use the bottom location switch on the left side of the binicle for a factory LR switch for the roof lights. Where can I get a factory LR switch? Anyone ever play with those switches? The dealers apparently know how....any thoughts?

Does anyone hae a wiring diagram for extra lights?

Thanks in advance...

You can get them at a ••••••• or from Nathan at www.discountrovers.com.

I am going the same route using 2 spots for the lights. This is because my left binnacle has three blanks. 1 spot will be for the two cornering lights and the other will be for the 2 pencil beams. I am sure that I will wire in the Back-up lights the same way.....

www.britishrecycling.com

Ask for Dan. Much cheaper than dealership or even Discount Rovers.

Those wrecked D2's have seen hell.....

Yes, but the interiors are not in bad shape...

I've been there and scavenged in person. I picked up a rear wiper switch for my CDL solenoid, so I speak with first-hand knowledge!

Rans,
If you use a stock DII fog light switch, be warned that it is a momantary switch that will not stay on without a special type of relay.

I got one to work, but it wasn't a drop in procedure. I have heard of people that have used a cruise controll switch.

Yes, the Push-On, Push-Off switches are: rear wiper, cruise control.

Rear wiper does not have the orange LED that the cruise control switch has, so the switch cover can be replaced with a blank cover, as I did here:

I'm not sure about this, but I think the lamp switches for a D1 would fit. The D1's are "Push-on - Push-off". I just did this recently, fairly easy install. Check out my Webshots Photo Album for a few details. It's under the Hella 4Ks link. Email me for any other questions, I might be able to help. BTW, I got the switches from Nathan.

Paul, which switches are you going to use? I was going to wire them the same, 3 switches, but I only have 2 blanks, one on each side.

Craig, thanks for the tip on British Recycling, that Dan is a trip! he is looking for switches for me. I've looked at your installation photos before and it's great info for me. I'll be referring to them again, I'm sure.

Carl, Thanks for that warning. I guess the answer is to make sure if I use that that I get the right relay with it. Dan from British Recycling said if I can identify the relay, he can include it with the switch.

Glenn, thanks for that tip, I wish I knew if the D1 switches are indeed the same?

If I can make it work Rans, I will use the Criuse switch because I like the light. I just have to remove the Cruise Labeling from it.

Not having tried this, this may be a silly question, but will the switches from the right side of the binacle fit into the left side if simply flipped over?

The binacle switches on the DII have slot/groove fittings (very tech term :) )...but a sharp chisle or file should get them to fit.
..I'm not sure about flipping them, but I think they should be fine.

Glenn! I thought you needed help with those lights?? Good to see you got them running.

I guess you have to flip them due to the contour of the button, unless the button cap could just be flipped instead.

Just file the plastic "key" so that it doesn't matter what "slot" you put the switch in.

I used an X-acto knife to file it down.

The labels cannot be removed. The switch is actually a transparent white plastic. The Cruise Control label is actually just masked so that when the switch is painted, the CC label remains transparent white so when the binnacle lights are turned on with the headlights, the switch lights up and you can see the CC label in the dark.

Just put a blank switch top on the CC switch and you should be fine. The switch button tops are easily removed with some precision. It is very thin plastic that holds it on.

I'll check them out this weekend as I have a hand an extra 01 SE binacle with switches to work with for my lighting.

Make sure you get the wiring connectors + wires for the switches. The connectors from a D1 or D2 will work. The connectors are "keyed" as well.

Rans- Yes, Dan is a trip! He is good people though. He hooked me up on some parts when I sent a bunch of people his way when he had D1 CDLs available. I always keep him in mind for used parts.

Yeah, I have the pigtails still attached to all switches. I picked the binacle up for $35.00 with front and rear fogs, wiper, washer, cruise and dimmer switches intact and all have the appropriate pigtail with about 6 inches of wire.

I have not purchased lights yet, but figured this was a good buy for when I get to them. I've been slowly collecting good deals for later use.

That's a great buy! Did you take a look at the lights? I was disappointed when I found that I could not remove the CC or R. Wiper labels.

No, I really haven't even played with them. Just tossed them in the closet to deal with later. At the same time, I bought an overhead console (sold the homelink), A-Pillar and ABS brake lines (sold them today to help out a fellow D-Webber).

I'm using the tweeter pod from the A-Pillar to burry my cell phone hands free speaker in the dash or A-pillar.

I'm looking for another set of ABS lines, but someone else needed them immediately and paid me for that need, so I can't complain. Thanks, Dave.

The overhead console I bought to make a drop down add on console for my GPS screen. I'm going to use the extra one as my construction trial/error piece so I don't uck up the one in my truck. When it is perfected then I'll remove from this one and install in the truck. Sold the Homelink to someone who needed it worse than I.

And, the binacle was just for the switches. All and all, I wound up with a lot of stuff.

Rans

The relay you would need for is a "latching" relay you can get it at any electrics part store radio shack or Fry's it doesn't have to be a rover part. It's the same as a regular relay except that the same pulse that opens it also closes it and it remains "latched" in bothed directions

Land Rover has AUX light switches that fit there other than the fog light switches. I don't think they are momentary switches but I could be wrong.

Oh, so is there a down side to using a latching relay? If not, then I can use my extra front and rear fogs for lights and simply use the latching relay.

No down side at all to using a latching relay that is how your fogs work anyway.

There is still a post on the for sale section.

Al, The Aux switches are momentary and use the latching relay. That's how my 4Ks were set up.

The lights that I got came on the roof rack, they are PIAA 520's. I stopped by my friendly local 4wd shop (www.ok4wd.com) and spoke with Chuck who has a '96 D1, and we poured thru the PIAA catalog and found the wiring harnesses for those lights. So I bought a pair of harnesses. They come with relays and switches. The switches are little self adhesive ones with an indicator light. I'm not sure where I will locate them yet, but I'm in good shape now. That is not to say I won't retrofit them to the binnicle switches if I can get the right ones. One thing I need to know in order to use the binnicle switches is where the latching relay is located?

You would have to buy the latching relays they are not in the car unless you are using the factory fog switch that is already in the car and you have fog lights. If that is the case you can have your fog lights trigger the new lights.
Just curious Where are you located??
