I needed to reverse-mount by spare tire due to space considerations of the larger than stock tires. This was about 8-9 months ago. Now I have noticed that the tailgate misaligned so much that my weather-stripping is not preventing rain from pouring in. Description of misalignment = top-right corner is where water pours-in; you can see daylight peering through as you sit in back left seat and look at upper right-hand corner of tailgate door. Door closes fine. Running your fingers between tailgate&body space confirms door has settled with bottom left shifted down and top-right pulled away from body, thus weather-stripping is now ineffective. Looking very closely at hinge bolts on the body, they have not loosened. Now the question:. Does the tailgate hinge have bolts inside of tailgate where I may be able to adjust the door position or- are the hinges part of the tailgate, (welded). Obviously I have not pulled the trim panel off to take a look-see, but I thought I would ask before I begin to pull the tailgate apart. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Bruce |

Bruce: Rico needs to adjust his door too. Let us know how it works out. Mine was leaking and rattling. The dealership replaced the door seal and re-aligned the catch on the left hand side of the door. Thanks, Mike B. |

Dimmitt LR in Clearwater, took it to body shop. Several techs looked it over, mumbled and said, yup, you need a new hinge, top is slightly bent, what did you do to this? Arrgh! Went to my service manager, price tag $350! Then she looked up and saw my face and blurted out, although, we have had success in past by trying to readjust and winch the door somewhat, want to give it a shot? Hell yes I said. Then an old crusty looking LR tech came outside, scratched his greasy chin, and muttered 30-60 minutes, you will be better than factory fit. Well they had at it this AM and the door feels so much more solid. Damned amazing what a simple adjustment can do. Best part, only $65. No more rain, no more rattles and it shuts like a dream. Gotta love those folks at Dimmitt. |
