My 96 D1 was overheating. The cheapset solution was to replace the thermostat. I did and it still overheated. So I took the it to the dealer and after a pressure test they determined it was not leaking and that it was the fan clutch. They replaced it and all was well until I noticed a puddle of oil in the garage the next morning. I took it back and they said it needs to have the Intake valley gasket replaced. Apparently something had caused the gasket to blow out or become convex rather than concave as it normally is. Has anyone had any experience with their intake gasket leaking? The dealer is currently doing a compression test in order to determine the cause. Any advice would be appreciated. My 96 D1 has 116,000 miles. |

My 97 D1 3.9l was leaking oil down the front, and idle was unstable (surging)at 80k km. Dealer said leak was inlet gasket, so I got it done. Idle was fixed for about 7-8k km, started surging again, oil leak came back. Seems to be a recurring problem. Look at car reliability on MSN, they list this as the main engine problem. Time to do it again I guess, next service - 100k km. |
