Hi - anyone out there put in an aftermarket performance chip? I have heard that with a Borla exhaust, K&N, and a "chipped" disco, you can get ~10-15% boost in performance. Where can you get them, and which are the best?

Where can you get a chip? FWIW, I would stay away from the K&N air filters unless you have extra cash and never drive in dusty or wet areas. It's just not worth the money.

On the new rangie there already are lots of software upgrades available for the engine but I have yet to see them offered for the old 3.9/4.0/4.6 engines in the US.

magnaflow is louder than stock...not ridiculously loud...i love it though...has a deep rich sound...flowmasters sound good on big engines if you like the big raspy throaty sound @ full throttle...i like the magnaflow because it stays on a low tone throughout...i would highly recommend it...especially since they eliminate the rear muffler...its pretty cheap...$280 with install @ meineke of all places...peace,

Try this,

As far as I know the only chip for a 4.0L Rover. They have one under the Land Rover name for Freelanders. The V8 is only under the Range Rover name.

Go to RPIv8.com, rover engine specialists for chipping. They have lots of experience with Rovers. A bit costly to say the least and you will be without your vehicle while you ship the entire ECU to them for remapping.

Chris Crane is a great guy to deal with, he may be on the high side of pricing but with him you do get what you pay for. Its one of those things how fast can you afford to go...

If your looking for a budget rebuild he has that also lots of MOD stuuf..

I had one of his built up large valve 3.9 a few years ago with a Optimax Chip it beat the shit out of the old tired 3.5. And way more power than my POS 4.0

His 5.2 upgrade is a Monster i would like to see that go to a 6.0 some day then ill buy it...

That Air Force One looks pretty good but what are you getting for your $239 (Disco 1)? Looks like it's just an air cleaner, a few clamps, and a section of crome pipe? Am I missing something?

Its only the later Gems style injection systems that require a send in, even then if your not changing capacity you can have the ECU securtiy codes re-learned by any main agent or local company with test book or equivalent !!

Thanks for the appreciation, its this for sure, why we do it so well,

Kindest regards

Chris,
Could you please elaborate on the local-agent comment? I have a 97 Disco 4.0. I was thinking about chips, but wow, downtime and price were too restrictive for me anyway.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris haven't seen you post in a long time. I believe he's talking about the Borg (Land Rover North America Service Centers). My understanding is they will reset it back to design specs and not modify the EPROM. If any one has seen different let us know

Any Plans for a 6.0 ?
