Just put a rebuilt MAF in my 95 Disco lastnight after the dealer said my old MAF was shot and causing my poor idle/acceleration/check engine light problem. After I installed it the check engine light went out and the idle was great but the engine stumbled when I accelerated and surged several times while driving in the 30 mph range. Nathan has be more than helpful trying to get me through this and suggested that maybe the ECU hasn't reset itself becuase the battery leads weren't disconnected long enough to clear the memory and it still thinks a bad MAF is present. Does anybody else have experience with this type of problem? I can't afford a $1000 repair bill right now and am desperate for help? Thanks in advance. |

Bryan: The '95 doesn't have a real sophisticated compuer system to it, however, it does have to recalibrate things. It may take several start/stop heat/cool cycles for it to recalibrate and reprogram itself to the new MAF sensor. I'd give it a day or two before I gave up on it. It may also require some wide open throttle time to set the span of operating conditions. Good luck, I know you've been fighting this for some time now. The frustration level is bound to be elevating. Paul |

Thanks Paul. As I've told you before I honestly appreciate your tech. help and the attitude boosts. I guess what's eating at me (besides the loss of cash) is that when the dealer swapped out my MAF with one from another car, they said my rig drove (not just idled) great and when my faulty MAF was installed in the other car it immediately tripped the check engine and caused idle/acceleration problems. I'm reaching the end of the rope now and have lost all confidence with regards to the reliabilty of the vehicle. I'm even considering trading the thing in as is (at a large loss for me) just to avoid future repair/towing/rental car expenses. |

Now you understnad why I have multiple other vehicles I can drive. If it weren't for my being comfortable with driving something else, I couldn't afford to drive what I drive, much less work on it myself. Although, I have had a good dealer experience. Remember, nothing in life that is easy is of any value. |
