I took my 95 disco thats about to hit 100 K into meineke to have them verify that it was the cats that were making an extremely annoying rattle, and sure enough, the guy told me it was the one on the passenger side. Now I have a problem - he told me a universal one wont fit on that side.

So what should I do? I thought I heard about universal ones being welded in for pretty cheap. Anybody know where I could get one that would fit? And should I go ahead and replace both when I get the passenger side done? Thanks for any advice

Matt:

Go to the left, under utilities then keyword search for "catco". You will find lots of info on Catco universal cats. I just had both cats cut out and replaced with two Catco 6005 at a local muffler shop a couple of weeks ago, working great so far.

I am really unmotivated here at work and its Friday, so I went outside and took a couple of pics.

Drivers side cat:

Passenger side cat:

passcat

Muffler guy said it was a little tight for space but as you can see easily done.

The O2's made it through OK, didn't trip any engine lights after install, I don't think they were removed before welding, but I am not sure, they may have protected them somehow before welding. The total cost was $280, both cats, installation, and 8% tax, not bad considering how much I would have spent for a landrover Y-pipe and two factory cats, probably saved $1000. I think Summit racing has the cats for $60/each, but I just called around and found a local muffler shop that sells and installs Catco universal cats.
