so i might just be the most pissed off man in the world today. i was on my way to have my 265/75 mud terrains put on but i decided to have my car washed since it was nasty from the beach last weekend. i go through and when it tells me to leave my car is off. so i go to crank it and NOTHING happens. no clicking or anything. i pushed it out of the carwash, called up land rover and they told me the underbody pressure wash and short out some fuse and to let it dry and it should be fine. but of course after 30 minutes my girlfriend gets ancy so i had to call someone to pick us up. so my car is stuck in a carwash parking lot when it should be getting tires. i say fuck to that.

It should be ready to go by now. That has happened to me probably three times now. And it started again within the hour. Sorry to hear it was so inconvient for you.

it still doesn't start. when i crank it nothing happens, but if i crank it again while the power is still on it starts and then dies right after. is that normal?

plugs/wires might be wet. Or ECU might have gotten wet. What year? Check plastic ECU box in rear of engine bay, passenger side, back by the windsheild washer reservoir (if your Disco is so equipped). Pop the top off the box and see if water is short-cicuiting the ECU.

I second your "fuck to that"

where's his ECU? under the hood? wasn't it '95 that had it under the passenger seat?

no, it's not an ECU, it's an ECM (Engine Control Module) that is in the engine bay between the fender and the washer fluid tank. seen a few disco's that splash through a fairly small puddle and then have to get towed home cause the ECM.

This is why I don't wash my cars. Ever.

Some call it ECM (Engine Control Module), some call it ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and some, like Blue and myself call it ECF (Electronic Cluster-Fuck). :)

Are you sure the alarm didn't set. It disables the starter and ignition. Hasn't happened to me but I have heard others with that problem.

So, a truck that is built for mud, rocks, and water crossing cannot handle car wash?! What is the use of it? I am suprised. Does that only happen to D1?

Stop by any dealer and they can tell you the code.

Ted,

if you have the owner's manual, READ IT where it mentioned setting the radio code. If you screw it up, you will end up with inop radio and no means to reset it yourself.

find out the code for your radio. My LR dealer puts this code in every receipt, so I know it by heart (which didn't help me a lot, my wife screwed it up by frantically punching all the buttons).

pay attention to the statement "if you hear the beep during entering the code, STOP."

ECF - I love that one. That's what the wife is getting told from now one everytime something goes wrong - just a whole lot easier to explain.
