Hi, I,m new to the site but I hope someone out there can help me. For the past 2 weeks my 97 Disco converted for gas V8i, has been back firing approx half a mile from home. Usually occurs after a cold start and on an incline. Yesterday the vehicle broke down on my wife, with her loosing all control of the acceleration and rev counter going up to the top. Only obvious thing to note is that the accelerator cable and pedal seem loose.

Seddy,

Wasn't there a recall on the acclerator cable for one year of the Disco? I don't recall which year. You could find out all the recalls for your year model at alldata.com.

As for the backfire, kinda hard to say, may be the timing advance or a valve sticking open? Do you know if it's backfiring through the exaust or the intake?

-Mark
