i have stock michelins on my '98 disco, i'm gonna get some new tires this coming weekend. i want to get bigger tires but i can't afford to lift yet. but when i do lift it, i don't want to have to get bigger tires. What size, brand, and model do you guys recommend?

wait until you get a lift, then get the tires. if you put them on now, you'd end up with a lot more cutting then you need to do.

I got tires and then lift, and its just a pain in the ass. Just be patient. Its worth it.

ya gotta do things in the right order...

Get lady naked, then have sex with her

Make room for the larger tires, then get the larger tires

yes yes yes you can go quick and nasty and do it the other way but it is just that much harder and much more messy.

that's what i want to do, but the problem is 3 of my tires have no tread left and all i can afford are the tires.

try some second hand inexpensive tires to hold you over.

How far out do you think the lift is? If you plan on it this year then get the cheapest tires you can to get you by. There are usually spares and used tires for sale here and on eBay. Just don't spend tons of $$$ on tires before the lift, you will regret it - trust me.

I guess that it really might depend on what size tire you plan to run and what size lift. I ran 245/75-16s without a lift but had major rubbing under compression and had to adjust steering bumpstops. I would not recommend this and the rear fender still needed some trimming after installing OME HDs. I would recommend getting the lift first. If you cannot afford the lift + tires, just wait for the whole deal and get new tires when you get the lift.

BTW, I have been very pleased thus far with the Interco Trxus M/T. I am running 235/85-16 on black steel wheels. Some pictures and comparisons of 245/75 are at http://www.discoweb.org/briandickens/.

Just put BFG AT 245/70/16 on stock 97 disco, and went 4x4 this weekend on the Denali Highway with no problems.

Do a CB lift for 120 and then spend the money left over on real tires.

Change the lift later if you want.
