Hello all, I was wondering if anyone with a D2 have had any hiccups with their CDL's? Mine wouldn't unlock on my drive home and it was in the unlocked position. I left it for the next day and it unlocked as I backed out of my driveway. Has anyone else encountered this? Is this common? Or symptamatic of something else? Thanks.

D2 doesn't have a CDL, not unless you added the linkage yourself. Did you?

adtoolco, If you drove home with the CDL engaged you may now have a problem. When you're done with the CDL move it to the unlock position and drive backwards for a 10-30 yards to get it to disengage.

It also helps when reversing to slightly pull up on the parking brake...

Leslie - Yup, I added the linkage just after the Killinton romp. Makes a big difference.

Al - I drove home very slowly, taking turns as wide as possible. Everything feels and sounds in order, no blood no foul...this time.

So if my center diff doesn't unlock will reversing work every time?

Chris,
Sometimes you have to do a little drunken dance (with your truck, not on foot) to get it to disconnect. People seem to find a certain thing that works for them and stick with it. Until then you usually end up going forward a few feet, reversing a few feet, turning left, turning right, going slow, then fast, using the emergency brake, etc. to disengage the CDL.

It's just a matter of getting a feel for what unwinds the pressure enough to allow the CDL to disengage. Good luck finding your own personal magic pattern.

adtoolco- Just to play it safe I'll drive in reverse and sometimes do the CDL jig as Rick pointed out even if the CDL light is out. It's cheap insurance to make sure the CDL really is off. I don't always trust idiot lights.

Well yes, as we well know, the idiot lights certainly didn't work in my case ... still don't as far as I can tell. Additionally, I had ETC and ABS still engaged (no lights there either). As far as the lights, it may just depend on the year of one's D2 (?) When my dealer tested all of the newer models on the lot, ('01 and up) and none of the lights worked, LRNA's response was something to the effect of "so what, the diff isn't supposed to be locked". Oh well, I don't want to dwell on that memory again. :)

Thanks all, I was sweating the whole drive home worried that I would break something. then I was sweating 'cause I drank a fifth of Jack Daniel's and started dancing like an Indian around my D2. My neighbors think I'm crazy... I tend to agree with them :-)
