Not that anyone would... but if one were to cut off the catalytic converter, could the rear O2 sensor be fooled into reporting the correct voltages to the ECU so that no annoying check engine light would occur? Perhaps fooled by removing it, wrapping the element in aluminum foil or something, punching a few holes in the foil, securing the foil to the sensor with some kind of clip and reinstalling. Theoretically, the foil would reduce the amount of exhaust passing across the sensor element, thus reducing its output voltage. Would this work? Any thoughts?

yes

just a simple circuit using parts from radio shack would accomplish that. no pieces of foil flying around.

does anyone know the specs for the output of the sensors? Or how to make such a circuit?

One is bad, the other will soon follow. truck has over 140k on it, and I don't have $700-$1400. So, yeah, I guess it's bugging me alot.

And it'd be less work than trying to figure out how to trick the system.

Catco generic cats from Summit racing....you might even find a local meinke or similar that has them in stock and will fit them up
Take a look at the d90.com list for one person's experience

What happens when the rear O2 sensors are unplugged? Will there be any engine performance problems? Can't I just take out the check engine light to save the annoyance? I want to cut the two down to one super flow convertor.
