I have a R 380/lt230 and the backlash is getting worse. It's realy noticable while rock crawling and decending rocky terrain. My question is how hard is it to replace the mainshaft? Could a DIY'er or a regular garage handle the job for a reasonable fee? I would like to do it myself. |

You have to do the mainshaft and the input gear on the LT230. You need to drop the intermediate gear cluster in the LT230 and reset it with a new crush sleeve (somewhat hard) and you need to basically completely disassemble and reassemble the R380 to replace the mainshaft. Did I do it with no experience, yes. Did I need someone to press on/off the bearings, yes. Can you do it? I dunno. The manuals are hidden online somewhere, and you should at least get those and see if it looks like something you can do. If not pull the trans/t-case yourself and take it to a shop and have them do it. That would be reasonable cost. Ron |
