Hello, I'm looking for new tires. I had decided on 245/75 - 16 Dunlop Radial Rover R/Ts ... these tires (and most of the other tires of this size) have a load range of E, which is approx 3000 lbs per tire. The tire guy said that these were 10 ply tires and would have a very harsh ride. I have just installed the RTE 2" Springs and OME shocks and this really increased the stiffness of the ride already.

My question is: will Load "E" tires beat my teeth out on the road? I would like to retain a smidgen of long-haul driveability.

Thanks for any input.

Oh, btw the Dunlop's dont come in a in the smaller 235/70-16 size or I'd get those since this size seems to have a lower load range (C or D). My fall back plan is just to suck it up and get the 225/75 - 16 BF Goodrich AT K/Os with the D load rating.

i personally dont' mind the E rating. they work just fine.

if you really want load rating D, then there's the BFG ATs on 245/70-16.

or go big, 265/75-16 also rated D.

With the uprated springs, you won't notice the "E" range a bit anyway. I've been very happy with mine. If you're off-road much, the E range carcass will give you extra peace of mind IMO

245/75/16 E-rated 10-ply is no problem for me with OME HD springs & OME shocks. Bill's right about peace of mind - on a trail a couple months ago I tore a silver dollar-sized chunk out of the sidewall (down to the cords) and the tire held air just fine for over a month (until I got around to replacing it). You should see my sidewalls - cuts, gouges, and bruises all over the place. No problemo.

Blue - funny you should bring that up. About 1 1/2 years I tore off a good size flap off the sidewall - got home and noticed it - tire wasn't losing air, so I just superglued it back on thinking that would be a temporary measure. Has been fine ever since and the tire never loses any at all. (Dunlop r/t)

I was in the tire shop getting rotated & balanced, and the manager insisted on replacing the tire. I told him I wasn't worried about it, but he insisted. Since it's all free at Big O, I told him to have at it. The 10-plys and 100% lifetime warranty let you concentrate on choosing your line without worring about tire damage.

Damn - 100% replacement - what a deal! Makes me wish we had one around here :(

Will probably end up with some Pep Boys muds or some such - hope they hold up

I am running Dunlop Radial Rover RV 245/75/16 tires with OME HD front and HD/MD rears. The tires are rated at "C" and have been pretty comfortable, but probably not as durable or harsh as "E" rated tires.

alan, watch those RVs.
i gave them away to some dude (exact same size tire) and one of them delaminated.
so he almost pulled a firestone clusterfuck on that one.

Thanks for the heads up Ho, but not really what I want to hear since I just got these tires, hopefully it was an isolated problem. Looking to get Interco Truxus MT 235/85/16 tires for my extra set of rims, how bad will the acceleration be running this size tire? Adequate or slow? I have a 92 RRC with 116,000 miles, but runs real strong.

eeek!!! Oh man, I hate sidewall damage (with good reason, LOL)! ... I thought I got the most ply I could with the BFG AT KO 255 70 R16 . Maybe it was because of the size(?) ... had no choice really, the disco was bone stock ... I only had 500 miles on it, but I wouldn't go out on the trail again with those stock Goodyears. I swear, if I could have got 16 ply, I would have tried to, LOL.

Kim :)

i have futura 245 75 16 and i run them at 32 front and 38 rear...i have hd 2inch lift and the ride is really nice and smooth..not harsh at all..i even get compliments from other suv and not suv owners...a lot of the harshness from e rated tires comes from over inflating of the tires...
